Alright, as of tonight newegg now has the x1950xtx for $469 in stock, the 7950gt for $320, and i just noticed there is a Retail 7900gtx for $400

I do not plan on upgrading my computer at all after this video card purchase until next holiday season. Keep that in mind. Price doesn't matter, but the cheaper the better.

I also have some questions on the video cards.

Is it alright that the x1950xtx is the Crossfire version? Will it still run ok in single card mode by itself? And why is that 7900gtx so cheap?

I'm not sure which card to get. The 7950gt only has a 30 day return for newegg and that isn't very attractive to me.

so here have seen the choices

A)x1950xtx
B)7950gt
C)7900gtx

Post your vote and the reason why thanks :)

Holy crap! I never knew the XTXs sunk that low! XTX for the win then! (Both X1950 and X1900)

QFT .... At this price don't even think about it, this is a slam-dunk with the possible exception of the louder cooler which I don't think is worth $120!

Either a X1900XTX with acclero X2, OR 7950GX2.

The 7950GX2 will be faster than a X1950XTX even in HQ mode. Check rage3d review, and it shows the GX2 being the top of the food chain overall.

The only quiet cooler will be from the X1950XTX. or maybe the EVGA 7950GT KO with the KO cooler.

I went with the VF900LED for my $299 (AR from ZZF, NE didn't have stock and I was impatient, haha) X1900XTX.

the x1950 xtx would be the best card out of the lot u mentioned. For a bit more bucks u'll get the 7950 gx2.
But out of the 3 the x1950 xtx is the best buy.And its quiet too.

I went with the 7900 GTX because i'm planning on getting an SLI board and another GTX.

But price/performance ratio the X1950XTX is looking really good

I'd get this and an aftermarket cooler. The XTX linked to above is also a very good price but I don't think it's worth the extra $60. For ~$265 you could have a very fast card with quiet cooling. The 7900GTX is definetely not worth $160 more than the X1900XT as they perform on par with each other (lead goes to X1900XT when HQ driver settings are used). The X1950XTX is unique because of the GDDR4 memory, but still not worth its current price IMO. The 7950GX2 is faster than the others at this point but at more than twice the price of an X1900XT, it's price/performance ratio isn't very good.

Even Crossfire cards are going for a decent price nowdays. $359.99

That's my .02 for what it's worth.

Speaking of CrossFire, does anyone know if there's a problem mixing card mfg's in a CrossFire setup? For instance, Newegg has a great price on a Sapphire x1900xt ($297!!!) but the best price CF Edition card I can find is an ATI x1900 CF Edition (see Elfear's Buy.com link above).

If I pair a Sapphire and an ATI, will there be any issues?

They're already discontinued and replaced with the X1950XT-X, so once stock is gone then yes you will not find anymore.

Thanks for the follow-up. I may purchase my x1900xt 512mb card today then. Newegg's price is REALLY good. Any input on pairing a Sapphire with an ATI, however? Just concerned about mixing brands...

You won't be disappointed. I just bought my X1900XT 512MB in light of the current situation, and ATI's hyper-aggressive pricing right now. It was an upgrade from an X1800XT 256MB, and I wasn't expecting much of a performance increase, but the actual increase was more than enough to impress me.

As for mixing brands, I assume you mean Crossfire. Different brands mix flawlessly in Crossfire. :)

Yup, that's what I meant! If I go this route, then my x1900xt will be a Sapphire brand, while my 'CrossFire Edition' card will be an ATI brand. Good to know I shouldn't have a problem with this config.

:)

It'll be perfectly fine. Keep in mind that you can also pair X1900XT/XT-Xs with the X1950 Crossfire Edition cards. :)

My plan is either to buy an X1900 Crossfire Edition second-hand or simply buy an X1950 Crossfire Edition, as it'll be a long while before I go Crossfire and the X1900 Crossfire Edition card might be extinct by then.

Wow, I did not know you could pair the different models as well. I just ordered the x1900xt from Newegg for $300 (plus tax) but haven't yet ordered the CF Edition card. I may see how the single x1900xt performs and then add in the x1950 CF card when needed. Thanks for the FMI (for my information :) ).

It's only in the case of X1950/X1900 so far as they use practically identical cores, just thought that I should point that out as some people might assume I mean you can pair X1800/X1900/X1950/etc.

Quoted for ultimate truth. Got mine for £199, and the 7900GT was almost the same price here at the time!

Get a x1900xt 512mb, and install the accelero x2 if you're not afraid replacing coolers. That will void the warranty, but in return you get the fastest card for the money that's also quiet.

If you dont want to replace coolers, get the x1950xtx. It's not as fast as the 7950xg2, but it's close enough that the xg2 is certainly not worth the extra $110+. However, the x1950xtx is also not worth the extra $150 over the x1900xt.

thats the thing. i don't want to void the warranty.

when i had my 7900gt i wasn't afraid to install my after market cooler because it was an eVGA model.

seeing as this is my grandparents money(graduation/birthday present), i might go for this (but i doubt it)

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814130023

if i don't go for that, i will probably end up getting an x1950xtx.

thanks for your recommendations on the x1900xt/x, i looked into getting one a few weeks ago when the sapphire card was $310. i just don't want to deal with voiding the warranty
