However, where do you enable HDR? I don't see that option, but I'm running the latest 1.22...is that specific to only some maps like in Counter-Strike: Source?

You can enable HDR from the setup menu before you start the game.

Your fps is pretty amazing cause I myself drop to about 30 fps occasionally outside. Very rarely though...and you're able to do that on a 6800?? Maybe since you don't have HDR enabled or other tweaks. You are talking about Oblivion right??

Nah, Battlefield 2! :D I usually play 16 or 32 player servers and have not had any issues. I'm sure it's because of HDR. I know when I play regular (non-HDR) maps in Source, my FPS sits at 99 always with all eye candy on. When I go into say, Militia, I average 35-40.

I'm so glad I overclocked my card because I'm able to keep my rig in its current condition for only $20 cost and it should last me another year at least. (NV Silencer5) I'm hoping to stretch it farther than that, but we'll see. My goal is to be able to skip every other generation of videocards before I upgrade. I get more out of my money and better technology lands in my hands with every greenback saved. :)

It does not exhaust out of the case. The fan simply blows air down onto the heatsink. Any air that does go out can also easily be pulled back in.

The X1900 cards do exhaust out, actually blowing the air out.

As was the case with the 7800GTX-512 hot air is exhausted into the case...

I havent gotten mine yet, but I doubt the air would come back into the case when its constantly pushing it out.. as long as it has a path.. it doesnt necessarily need a shroud

either way, its the most quiet high end card, more so than the GT.. which is saying something!

edit- Wait.. what are you talking about... I checked out the photos here link

and i HIGHLY doubt the hot air comes back in that video card! :disgust:

The way thats designed its going to push air out the back thru the shroud and its not going to come back in... I'd wager it doesnt make the case any hotter than a X1900XTX does (in fact much less so than the 1900)

because even if you are blowing the hot air out, you cant eliminate all of the ambient heat coming off those ATI cards with a HS/fan setup.. its going to be hot on all sides and just bake in there.

My GTX actually has a rather large and quite noticable shroud.. link Looking at the BFG in particular.. I dont see any air coming "back in teh case" nor do I see that fan pulling any air AWAY from the heatsink.
Its going to go out the back.

Please have a look at the fan design on the card. It is designed to blow air down, it can go out either way (front or back) and it can also come in either way (front or back or even top).

Check the fan design on the X1900 cards, it blows the air out. Air comes in, goes over the heatsink and it gets blown out by the fan. The fan is actually designed to blow the air out.

See above and btw good case ventilation goes a long way...

Currently my X1900 idles at 49 and my processor idles at 32, i'd say that the card doesn't affect the processor at all. Even under load (both GPU and CPU) the processor never breaks 45 with the card running 60-70s. I'm also running an overclocked P4 prescott here.

Good case/airflow/ventilation ftw, also the loudest fan I have is at 23DBa :)

If you are willing to volt mod and install an after market HSF solution the 7900GT looks like the way forward... this way you could effectively have 2 7900GTX's in SLi for about half the cost!

ALthough tthinking about it do the after market HSF i.e. Vf700/900 fit in SLI... probably not :(

Oh well could always settle for 1 7900GT turned into a GTX... and save a lot of £$££$£

I have a 7900GTX coming from StepUp, and am considering blocking off the heatsink and shroud on the end of the card opposite from the outputs, to produce an X1900/NVSilencer style monodirectional airflow. That makes SO MUCH MORE sense than the current 512MB 7800GTX/7900GTX heatsink setup, and has also been my beef with Zalman's flower-style coolers-- yeah, they cool the GPU, but they blow all the hot air around the case and with other PCI cards down there you get really really hot around the GPU as a whole.

I'll have to take a closer look at my GTX when it arrives. Till then. But I rest assured that Nvidia knows how to design a great HS.

And ATI knows how to design a great card. I REALLY dont understand people who care about the HSF/sound/power consumption. When I'm in the middle of playing Oblivion, do I notice my video card's HSF, even though it's loud (X1900XT)? No, I dont.

i just got my dual 7900 GT. 13k in 3dmark05 as opposed to 11k with the single 7900 GTX. But ihave a question. What should i set the SLi rendering mode to? There are 3 options.

also should i check the show gpu load balancing?

Ok, I'll bite. Why did he get OWN3D? Am I missing something?
