It does not exhaust out of the case. The fan simply blows air down onto the heatsink. Any air that does go out can also easily be pulled back in.
The X1900 cards do exhaust out, actually blowing the air out.
As was the case with the 7800GTX-512 hot air is exhausted into the case...
I havent gotten mine yet, but I doubt the air would come back into the case when its constantly pushing it out.. as long as it has a path.. it doesnt necessarily need a shroud
either way, its the most quiet high end card, more so than the GT.. which is saying something!
edit- Wait.. what are you talking about... I checked out the photos here
link
and i HIGHLY doubt the hot air comes back in that video card! :disgust:
The way thats designed its going to push air out the back thru the shroud and its not going to come back in... I'd wager it doesnt make the case any hotter than a X1900XTX does (in fact much less so than the 1900)
because even if you are blowing the hot air out, you cant eliminate all of the ambient heat coming off those ATI cards with a HS/fan setup.. its going to be hot on all sides and just bake in there.
My GTX actually has a rather large and quite noticable shroud..
link Looking at the BFG in particular.. I dont see any air coming "back in teh case" nor do I see that fan pulling any air AWAY from the heatsink.
Its going to go out the back.
