well thats good to hear. what are the advantages of bringing the temps down if I'm not going to OC?

The reason I used it is because the current game I'm using will not run in window mode, and I'm just using the Nvidia tool to see the temps.

Is there a good program out there to monitor the temps over time and keep a log of my maxes?

Thanks!

use rivatuner to log your temp during gameplay

but to be honest, the highest temp your card will reach is achieved on running RTHDR

my sli gtx reached 60C max on the demo with all settings maxed out (16aa, detail map...etc..)

however, during gameplay, it never reaches 60C

sure about that? it seems that program only uses the 2d clocks.

yes, i'm 100% sure, i tested it myself

only that program had my top card reaching 60C

games such as fear and oblivion only had my top card goes up to the mid 50s at best

I'll have to download RiverTuner, but so far just by closing the game quickly and seeing what Nvidia says, it seems the game uses less than the program.

lLol 73C is nothing. My x1900xt got up to 91C during Oblivion before I overrode the fan settings.

Riva Tuner does not apear to support the newest Nvidia Drivers, or maybe the 7900. Or at least that's the message I'm getting.

3d or 2d....doesn't matter

all i know is that it stresses the card more than a game does
as attested by starwars7

Play Oblivion with HDR. That should make that card pretty toasty.

Also, why does "that" program (rthdribl) stress the graphics card so much?

No, it's running 3D clocks. I've done tests on this. I compared my card at 500 core vs. 690 core and I get significantly higher FPS at 690 core vs. 500 core.

I've found rthdribl to be the best in terms of heat stressing a video card. On every card I've owned since my 9800 Pro, it has cooked cards better than any games I've tried. The games that seem to get closest in terms of temps are F.E.A.R. and Oblivion in my experience.

No idea stopped using it since it only heats my x1900xt to 55c. so it really isnt stressing the vid card at all. i just run my dual monitors so it way better for me to play oblivion for a hour.

seems possibly a tad high, nothing to worry about at all though, its perfectly within limits.

the cooler is pretty weenie anyway, considering the power inside....id just grab a VF700 and be done

With stock cooler I idle at 48C and I have seen a max of 73 under load. That is overclocked to 560core and 800 mem.

Here is an excellent temp viewer/logger
http://www.guru3d.com/article/nvtemplogger/294/1/

rthdribl does run with 3D clocks just like ATITool and just like any 3D would. Windowed mode or not does not matter. It is my experience that it gets very close or over in temp to most games.

Rivatuner does not support the 7900GT(X) and will not until next version is out.

RTHDRIBL is the best standalone videocard stresser I know of. Nothing heats up a GPU more than it does, at least to my knowledge that is.

I wish I could remember what my temp. my stock cooler was able to control at, but I put a Zalman VF700 CU on the card less than a week after I got it. And that was a week after they were available at the major etailers so it's been a little while.

I think if you run RTHDRIBL in windowed mode your card may not be switching to 3d clocks. I know my card runs hotter in fullscreen mode than windowed mode. You can also try the furry cube in Atitool, that thing heats up the card even more.
