He bought them, one is reference and the other is twin frozr. Which card should go on top?
If noise is a concern I would think put the quieter card (TF) on the top so the louder card can run cooler. Either way the reference should exhaust more hot air so I bet that will be best regardless of noise preference.
I run eyefinity running 3x 1080p monitors. I started back with a 5850 1gb which worked fine as long as I didn't try for Ultra settings anymore. Running 0/2x AA with Med detail was on average to keep smooth 60fps range. I ran a single 6970 as well which was better. I could finally max out games like BFBC2 2xAA/16xaf High Detail and get solid 60fps once I ran CF 6970. I parted with it due to having to run my Fractal XL on high when gaming. I run a single 7970 now and get almost 60fps 24/7 in the same game. But when they drop in price I will be grabbing another 7970 so I have the power again for newer games like BF4. Just don't get hung up on every detail setting being maxed, the games still look great on Med or High. Worst case just disable AA even though I don't like jaggies, I do like high solid FPS more.
In my opinion having three monitors alone adds the cool looks factor over simply bumping the AA from 2x - 4x or Med to High Detail. I love three screens in my racing games along with my older G25 racing wheel. The benefits of multiple screens far out weighs having to lower my in game detail in AA. I think he will do just fine with CF 7870's. I did have to put my MiniDP adapter on one of my side monitors due to a tearing like affect which happens across different cards 5000-7000 series and different adapters even with Vsync enabled. It's a tearing like issue that doesn't bother me as long as it isn't on my main center screen.
Remember after setting up your massive eyefinity resolution for gaming you can simply jump back to three 1440p screens by using Windows Key and P. For my 3x 1080p for everyday desktop use it must sit on EXTEND but for 6040x1080 it must be on DUPLICATE and PROJECTOR ONLY allows me to use a single monitor for power savings on the GPU/Monitors. WAY BETTER than what I used to have to do to switch back in forth with profiles, etc. Those hotkeys are WONDERFUL since I only run 6040x1080 right before I enter a game and back to 3x seperate 1080p screens while in windows use.
Well maybe I could have summed it up better but o well.. long winded. Hope some of it helps.
