How 'bout this bad boy: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819103544

Isn't nvidia releasing (or has it released?) SLI drivers specifically for those with dual core AMD cpus?

An X2 is no better than an A64 at games. You guys need to get the notion out of your head that more cores is automatically better. Games don't take advantage of additional CPU cores at this moment, so having an X2 is not going to feed something like a 7800GTX any better than an A64. As far as the reviews I've been reading, in order not to be CPU limited, you have to run your games at 1600x1200 8xAA/16xAF, or at a higher resolution.

That's what I'm saying. If games aren't SMP aware they aren't going to take advantage of dual CPU's or dual core CPU's.

It sounds like one of these cards will pretty much max out the standard CPU's we have today so really no point to SLI at this point.

That's exactly who is going to to be running these things in SLI - being able to max out your AA and AF while running the game at the 1920x1200 native resolution of a 2405FPW. You are definitely going to be graphics card limited at those resolutions, so this is a card for the gamers with huge LCD panels (or 22" pro-level CRTs).

Speaking of massive monitors, do any of these cards officially support dual-link DVI? With 24 pipes, the 7800GTX just cries out to be used for some 30" Cinema display native res gaming goodness.

BTW, If you do not find the availability of these cards a hot deal, then read the title before you come in next time, as it gives you all the pertinent details of price that you need to know before you make a jackass comment.
Uh, sorry but that's your opinion and your entitled to it but simple availability doesn't make a hot deal. IMO there's nothing hot about something selling for retail or above retail.

Kudo's to Nvidia for a real launch rather than a paper one but $600 for a video card is a friggin' joke. And to think I (and all my friends) thought I was an idiot for paying $400 for my BFG 6800GT. Now they want a 50% price jump for their next release? Get outta here... :disgust: I could see a $50 or maybe even $100 but $200 higher than a 6800GT? If I could sell my 6800GT for $250 or $300 I'd be willing to spend another $150 - $200 to upgrade to the latest and greatest but I'm not going to pay $300 - $350.

And again, to the people talking about SLI'ing these, I want to see a CPU that will feed a pair of these cards enough to justify it.

As far as I remember it did with the 6800...

Yeah they do, they have the same sort of dual-link DVI seen in the 6800 ultra ddl or something designed for the apple cinematic display

Anyone know what can 'use' this now? I have a 6800 GT OC (BFG) at ultra speeds...I play at high res for my 19" crt and things are just smooth and fluid.

Still $600+ for a video card *now* vs it in a few months much cheaper is the area of more money than brains.

of course if you are making mid-5 figures and living at home, why not? I know a lot of mid 20 somethings like this now. Whatever works :)

Here comes the price-gouging

it has begun....

I am a big fan of NewEgg and do most of my component purchasing from them. But one of the things that bothers me about them, now that they have gotten so "big", is that they engage in price gouging and other unscrupulous tactics in which they didn't used to engage. The cards are still showing at the $599 price and the XFX model even comes with a FREE XFX GA-CP03-SK0200G PC GAMEPAD! Yahoo, big deal. For $599 they ought to include a permanent mother-in-law muzzler.

300 ???

I guess there are a lot of wealthy gamers rise. Well, as of 9:58 PM EST Thurday, June 23 NewEgg has all but the BFG in stock; the XFX, eVga, Gigabyte and Leadtek are all showing as "in stock" at $599.

CheesePoofs was referring to the person who said they'd take SIX of the cards. 6 X $600 = $3600; 3600 divided by two computers = $1800 per computer.

He meant (it seems) two $1800 computers , not two $300 computers.

Not everyone can build an outstanding system for $300 like YOU can Gerbil !!! :)

$599 is too rich for my wallet - but a major Video Card is release and its in stock!

Nice to have a choice (at least for those with a FattWallet).

Sounds like GOOD advice !!!

Personally I think we all need to boycott all cards higher than the traditional $399. This price increase is WAYYY above the inflation rate, even with 'Dubbya' in office

Now there's an excellent suggestion; but it will never happen.

My normal budget is $150-175...however, due to SLI needing equal cards I did $450 a few months ago for my BFG 6800 GT OC I can run at Ultra+, but do just Ultra with.

freaking most expensive part of my machine. I don't game a lot, but it comforting to know I can still keep up on the low end for another 'season' by buying a budget card at that time and picking up a speed boost.

As of this moment, the BFG is back in stock at NewEgg.

I know many are looking for that brand in particular for the factory overclock, so it probably won't be for long.

BestBuy.com has the BFG 7800GTX in stock. Use BB's 10 off 100 (with max of $50 savings) online coupon good to 7/9. (Hint: if thinking of placing an "order" you may want to type a certain url before adding item to cart. Example, if I want to check rewardzone I would go www.bestbuy.com/rewardzone :)) Coupon will bring price down to $550 before tax. Coupon says no computer hardware, but took effect on my order. 2nd day shipping is pretty reasonable at $8.

Edit: Link to BFG 7800GTX on BestBuy.com

Awesome deal, Eymar. Just cancelled my third order and placed my fourth for a BFG 7800GTX. Every time I place an order I find a better deal before the previous order ships and switch.

$557.98 shipped 2-day! Can't beat this for a BFG! Don't know if you even can for any other brands! Even if they invalidate the coupon later when processing the order due to the no PC hardware clause, $607.98 still beats anywhere else for this brand in stock. Your deal might deserve its own thread.
