Funny thing, the 6800 Ultra's are still priced HIGHER. I'm sure the 7800GTX will whoop a 6800Ultra.
 
its interesting how nvidia kept the crazy pricing on the 6800ultras, and now releaseing these for the CHEAPER than the current pci-express 6800U's, it actually makes the 7800gtx a warm deal for people looking at high-end pci-e graphics. Having so many cards instock today and all the sudden is very cool as well, good for getting some people to buy them on impulse. As I said though, $600 is insane, better to buy an XBOX this fall (~$300) for some amazing graphics candy for your eyes.

You could pre-order 2 PS3s for that price. And to think the 7 cores cell processors and RSX gpu which runs faster and better than 7800. I just can't find the logic to purchase a $600 video card just to play games.

Yeah riiiiiight... I can remember SONY braggin about the PS2 when it came out saying it was the most powerful gaming system ever, and Iraq could use it for a missile guidance system. Games still look look like crap, even to this day.

I'll believe SONY's PS3 hype when I see the actual games. Spare me the paper specs, will ya?

Ok but how old is that system? Honestly, the graphics that the PS2 show now are great for how old the system actually is. It's just too bad the true power of the consoles weren't built into games until the next gen consoles were close 😛. The graphics on the PS2 sucked major at release, now many years later, some games look pretty good.
 
I don't understand the point of having 2 of these in SLI mode. I mean, aren't they already pushing modern CPU's in single mode?
 
Great that they're out, but not worth the small spec increase. To me moving to 24 pipes isn't enough motivation to buy new when I have a 16-pipe 6800GT that I only paid $330 when they all first came out
 
Different strokes for different folks. I'm still using my 9800pro and probably will be until I can't run anything in 1024*768. I refuse to pay more than $150 for any computer part that I have.

The Leadtek WinFast 7800GTX is already sold out. Hmrph... maybe the VIVO? Oh well.

 
Obviously there are plenty who feel otherwise, since it's OOS, but I think a video card costing $600 is inherently *not* hot.
 
For $20 more now they have the BFG clocked at 460MHz.

Personally I think we all need to boycott all cards higher than the traditional $399. This price increase is WAYYY above the inflation rate, even with 'Dubbya' in office
 
Considering last generation's top-of-the-line card (6800 Ultra PCI-E), 13 months after "launch", still costs $490 best-price on Pricewatch, not to mention 3 months ago the best price was about $800, this gen's 0-day pricing of $600 gets a hell of a lot warmer.

That's a $1000+ CPU that most buyers wouldn't even consider. Also that's dual core so correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't that mean your application (game in this case) would have to be SMP aware? AFAIK most games are not. Anyway, I'm talking about a 3.4 Ghz P4 or a 3800 AMD. Those CPU's are going to feed a 7800 SLI setup enough to justify the purchase.

Uh, sorry but that's your opinion and your entitled to it but simple availability doesn't make a hot deal. IMO there's nothing hot about something selling for retail or above retail.

Kudo's to Nvidia for a real launch rather than a paper one but $600 for a video card is a friggin' joke. And to think I (and all my friends) thought I was an idiot for paying $400 for my BFG 6800GT. Now they want a 50% price jump for their next release? Get outta here... :disgust: I could see a $50 or maybe even $100 but $200 higher than a 6800GT? If I could sell my 6800GT for $250 or $300 I'd be willing to spend another $150 - $200 to upgrade to the latest and greatest but I'm not going to pay $300 - $350.

And again, to the people talking about SLI'ing these, I want to see a CPU that will feed a pair of these cards enough to justify it.
