Is vsync on? because I did the stress test and my fps was halved, couldn't figure out why, and then I saw vsync was on, so I disabled it, and fps back to normal. (vsync is an option both in HL2 and in Nvidia control panel)

He got 160 FPS to begin with, then performance declined. If it was chispet drivers, he never would have got 160 after his clean install.

Is there a possibility that when only one core is used that cool'n'quiet recognize the whole processor as beeing idle, and therefore throttles both cores?

Or edutcated.

No, just banned. ;)

just banned, education doesn't work, we've tried before. You can tell anybody who says stuff like that doesn't even play FPS games, much less have anything worthwhile to contribute to this discussion.

It's funny how it is a different number every time. I have heard this nonsense with 30, 40, 50, 60 and 70 before, but this was the first 20 I have seen. :D

1. Go into the BIOS and disable Cool n' Quiet.
2. Check heat readings during the Stress Test and during gameplay.
3. Make sure you have the latest drivers and patches and everything.
4. You might [highly unlikely] have a bum card.

I disabled cool n quiet, rolled back to just after windows installation, installed chipset drivers (from disk that came with mobo, when I tried installing the latest nForce drivers my cpus would be at 30% not under load!?!)
I then installed vid driver 77.76, installed HL2, went to CS Source stress test and got 39fps!?!!

WTF??!?! Should I return the vid card? The thing that puzzles me is how the fps can jump from 160-39 fps???

have you tried assigning the game to a single CPU? Apparently this helps with some games...

On the Gigabyte.com.tw website there is a new card BIOS available, but I am reluctant to try it since it requires booting to DOS (Hello, 1980's) and a failed flash may make it all look like my fault.

I am thinking of returning the card.

Basically here is what you do:
Load up the game but don't start or load a save (it will mess up the game)
alt-tab to windows
ctr-alt-del to the task manager
go to processes and right click on gtasa.exe
go to affinity and uncheck one of them (CPU0 or CPU1)
exit out... go load a game... it should be perfect!

try that out...

EDIT: Instead of GTA, right click on on HL2 or whatever the .exe is called

Well... 77.76 IS a beta driver, isn't it? Switch back to the latest official WHQL release.

I am getting about 15fps in Battlefield 2, no matter what the video settings. Heat is very low, about 32C. Mobo bios is the latest, Nforce drivers are the latest. Forceware 77.72, also tried the beta .76 with no improvement.
Interesting, I get the exact same performance in WinXP 64-bit edition as I do in XP Pro sp2. (booted from another drive in same system).

I am also getting about 5200 in 3DMark05. Seems low.
The system is very stable in either OS and basically has never crashed.

EDIt- What is cool and Quiet and how do i disable it?

I have the exact same problem, except my card is from Leadtek. 3dmark05 score is around 5800~. I have A64 4400+ and ASUS A8N-E.

I found out that the video card defaults to 275MHz (2d speed) and stays that way, although I am running 3d applications. So I manually clocked the speed to 430MHz, and I started getting garbled screen, and then it would freeze.

I flashed the bios to the newest one posted at Leadtek, but the problem persisted. I even tried a new PS, a 500W Seasonic, but no luck. I just sent my card back to Monarch for RMA.

My trouble

That sounds just like my deal.
I am going to try to disable a core from the info above just to see.

How do I see what MHz the card is running at?

Use RivaTuner and use hard monitoring. Also, try clocking your card to 430MHz and see if your 3d applications run without any problems... mine didn't.

Anyhow, the card is supposed to throttle itself back and forth between 2d(275MHz) and 3d (430MHz or 450MHz with new bios), and it was not doing that, so I sent it back.

I set it higher in RivaTuner and got all sorts of graphical glitches, just like you said.

Even when set higher it only got 20fps or so, still nothing near the right amount.

Yeah... DOWNLOAD THE NEWER ONES FROM NVIDIA :)
use coolbits 2.0 and see if it is default at 2D(like as posted)
set it to 3D... detect optimal perforamance(o/c) if you want
