I need a video card for movie editing and game movie editing.

Does 7800GT offer that much of a image quality boost over the x850xtpe? It's actually an x800GTO2.

I'm being offered a
7800GT - $250
x800GTO2 - $150
(probably won't get this) 6800GT - $175

I will play maybe FEAR and HL2 and other FPS like that. I also saw that x850xtpe's take less of a performance hit when AA and AF are added.

Which would be a better choice? I also figured that witha 7800GT, there would be bottlenecking. My 'rig' consists of -
Epox 9npa+ Ultra
AMD 3500+ clawhammer core
1gb VX Gold
500W PSU.

I noticed that to have smoothness with Fear and BF2 and other newer games, I'd have to go for 2 gigs of ram, and in that case, I'll just go with the x800GTO2, because...I just don't want to get another gig, or a 2x1gb kit.

Maxed out image quality settings for both, is the 7800GT IQ much better?

THANKS.

Looks like x800-series and up cards in general take less of a hit on AA and AF than 6x00series and up cards..

Is this because of texture units or what?

7800GT will beat the x800 series any day of the week and not to mention it supports HDR and SM 3.0.

If you had a choice I'd go for the 7800GT.

7800GT FTW!

But remember, there's a $90 - $110 price difference, and I don't really need more than 40-50 FPS @ 10x7 resolution.

I'll give it some thought.

If we're talking 2D and video editing, they're practically the same. For 3D, the 7800GT wins hands down.

Wether that is worth the extra cash is up to you.

Either card will run the games you want at 1024x768 (except FEAR which might require that you drop to 2AA or 0AA with the X800GTO). THe ATI card might actually be a little quicker in HL2, at least my X850XTPE kept up with my 7800GTX in that game. If you don't plan on upgrading for awhile I'd suggest you get tyhe 7800GT. If money is tight than go for the X800GTO (as long as it's unlockable), you'll be fine with either card as far as gaming performance. I can't really comment on the video editing aspect.

any card (6800GT, X850XTPE, 7800GT) will do you good. but in the long run and as more demanding games come out, the 7800GT will shine. but its really up to you if its for editing and such.

i would pick the 7800GT though.

The 7800GT would look better due to 4x TR SSAA in terms of IQ.
Your playing at 10x7 resolution? I think any of those cards with max eye candy will play at that resolution very well.

Maybe even 8xS at 10x7!!!

7800GT because of features, preformance, and IQ.
