No way the hd7870 is going to be $400. Common sense people. The hd7950 1 gig is going to be $399, the hd7890 (still based on tahiti, albeit more cut down the hd7950) is going to be $349. The hd7870 is going to be $299.... at least until GK104 forces AMD to do some price readjustments.

6970 level performance with 28nm overclocking capabilities and power draw for $300? You could overclock past 7950 performance for $300. Why would anyone buy a 7950 again if the 7870 was $300?

I just don't see it as gouging, or gouging that is beyond the pale or not understandable. I think the only problem is that AMD went back to pricing the way they used to when they were on top and a lot of people had their expectations up because of 4XXX and 5XXX pricing. So, some sticker shock sure.

So we have a group of buyers who got seriously let down when they did not get 5870 redux in being able to afford a couple top end cards on a new process for a good price. The prices are not going to change, beyond maybe a $50 price drop. Will have to wait till late this year once nvidia has their flagship ready.

As per the prices linked for the 78XX series, balderdash, only a fool would believe those are accurate.

Absolutely not. On these forums there are questionable characters saying moronic things like "work more" because we should be expected to pay more for less performance per $. The 7900 series are not selling well in the UK and I suspect the same goes for the 7700s, with the possible exception to the 7750.

LOL i don't think anyone with a 6970 or gtx570 is gonna be purchasing this card,if it doesn't perform the same,its gonna be the price that throws them off and the only upgrade option for people like Toyota is high end 7000 radeon or another gtx570 for sli now or wait for high end 600 series and with his psu,he will of course go for the high end nvidia part if it is cheap enough i am sure over a new psu and another gtx570.

I used to be be mad about the 7970 pricing myself,but yeah the ocing headroom,the tdp is awesome and the amount of vram really has this card priced right for the moment,if a nvidia high end counterpart does compete good i do doubt still either of the two options will have a price war dropping under $500.

Let the fanboy wars commence if both high end cards are priced nearly the same with the same level of performance,unlike last generation where amd only had mid range for a single gpu,they appear to have a high end part now but who knows,if nvidia has a super monstor coming out,the 7970 could look tiny like the 6970 did to the gtx580.

7770 is a crap card and is the only card in the 7XXX lineup that is not priced appropriately imo. But I have no issue with the 7970/7950 prices. You want the best, you pay for it, that's how it's always been. The GK104 is not going to dethrone the 7970 so prices will stay that way.

Well if 7870 is $299 then it won't be equal to 6970 performance. My guess is based upon 7870=6970.

Nvidia is the Intel of the GPU world, awesome, amazing, always on top. Sure they might be a few months behind, but really whats a few months in a two year time frame?

Don't know about this. Nvidia only holds the single-gpu crown on each process once they manage to release it. Every other bracket AMD has them matched and in many cases bested.

Only about 1% of people out there buy 8800GTX, 480GTX, 580GTX, 680GTX on release day. Everyone else gets the cheaper cards, that again, AMD always has a card as good or better than.

But sure, buy nvidia because some people can afford their best single-gpu cards, even though per your sig, you can't.

Nah I wouldn't say that, though I'm aware they're not my friend and are a cooperation attempting to bleed money from me just like any other. I have enough power currently for most these console ports, but sooner or later that will change and a new setup will be required.

I just hope when the time comes for that upgrade we're still not paying the same price for last gen performance in the current generation. However I probably won't have to worry about that as I purchase superior Nvidia products.

I can't afford the best card Grooveriding, but I can overclock to that level at less than half the cost silly premiums. Because of superior product design and implementation through drivers and industry leading game development support I give my alliegence to the overlord and master of the universe, Nvidia.

Is the 7890 confirmed? I assume that you're also implying the 7950 1.5gb @ $400, and the 7890 @ $350. The gap between the 7950 and the 7870 may not be big enough to facilitate another card in between the two, especially if the 7870 is 1200 cores at 1ghz, as some of the rumors suggest, which would make the gap about 20% between the 7950 and 7870.

If that is the case, we may see the 7870 at $350, with the 7850 2gb at $300, and the 7850 1gb at $249.

Also, Re: the 7770, I think that it's just priced a little too high, I strongly suspect that it's price will drop to $140 after it's been out for a couple months, which IMO is a very reasonable price for the card. (although performance increases in the $150 range have been small over the last few years, I bought my 4870 in march of '09 for $159, and neither AMD nor Nvidia has put out anything dramatically faster)

I was just highlighting that using the logic of nvidia having the best single-gpu card every process to base your buying decision on is flawed if that's not the card you're buying. That does make sense right ?

Intel dominates CPUs top to bottom for the most part. Nvidia is nowhere near that position in consumer GPUs. They make one niche product that 1% of us buy that out does their competition.
