7800 GT vs X1800 XT

I've read a lot of you having nice things to say about the X1800 XT.

However, after going over some reviews, it seems that between these two cards, the only real difference is that performance depends on the actual game being played. OpenGL games favour nVidia, etc.

Is there anything I'm missing? I've found places to buy the cards at about the same price.

I thought the 7900 GT was against the X1800XT...not the 7800GT. I dont see how it could win against the XT. But I dont know. I would go for the XT though. It would have higher minimun frames I think.

I had a 7800GTX which i RMA'd nearly a year ago and replaced with a X1800XT and i tell ya the Radeon is faster, in benchmarks its not by that much but it feels much beefier next to the old GTX. It handles higher resolutions better too.

The X1800XT would pummel that poor 7800GT. The 256MB 7800GTX was getting a pretty sound whipping from the X1800XT let alone the 7800GT.

The 7800GT prices seem to be somewhat inflated for some reason. I sold a used one for around $200 on ebay last week, even though you can get brand new 256MB X1800XTs for the same price. I'm not complaining, though. 🙂

Is there a large performance difference between the 256MB and 512MB X1800 XT?

I'd think not, since I don't really know of any games that would actually use the 512MB.

And how would you rate the performance of the 7900 GT and X1900 GT compared to the X1800 XT?

iirc the 7800gtx and the x1800xt were pretty close in performance

At resolutions above 1280x1024 newer games are starting to make use of the extra ram.

Yeah, the X1800XT was only a little faster. Against the 7800GT, however, there's basically no competition; X1800XT hands down.

Now, if he compared a X1800XL to a 7800GT, it would be 7800GT.

But against a X1800XT, the X180XT hands down.

A 7900GT (A 90nm 7800GTX theorectically) should be the X1800XTs comparison.

Compare the following:
7800GT and X1800XL
7900GT(or 7800GTX) and X1800XT or X1900XT
7900GTX and X1900XT(or X1900XTX)

For you:
1)1900XT 512
2)1800XT 512
3)1950Pro 256
4)1800XT 256 or 1900GT 256

@akshayt-aren't u a ATI fanboy.The x1950 pro isn't even released yet.
And i don't think a lot of people will agree with ur choices for 2,3,4.
I'd put x1800xt/7900 gt together at 2.And the extra 256mb doesn't make a big difference in majority of the games.Sure the x1950 pro may own them all when they come out.But they haven't come out yet.
And last(3rd)on the list would be the x1900 gt.

You running the potential board on the 2005? The 1800xt seems to have some odd issues with wide screen LCDs. Maybe it's only the drivers I've tried it out with(6.6, 6.7, 6.8 official and Omega 6.7s), but I can't get anything over 4x AA to work at the displays native resolution and there are some SERIOUS shimmering issues in some games no matter what quality settings you utiliize(for some reason, neither of these are issues on my CRT- shimmering is there a bit, but it is quite horrific on a LCD).

If you actually run the 7800GT @ HQ instead of just the normal inferior "Quality" mode most sites review with, then sure, it will keep up in a few select games.

But if you run @ HQ so you get the best quality you can, it will get raped in basically everything.

See, I didn't know that the X1800 XT had issues with widescreen LCD's. Anybody know if this has been fixed with recent driver releases?

If not, that would tilt the balance in favour of either the 7900 GT or X1900 GT.

And yes, I mixed up the 7800 Gt and 7900 Gt. My bad.

x1800XT would eat the 7800gt. i'd even take a x1800xt or x1900gt over a 7900gt. nvidia cards only score higher in benchmarks, but they dropfps like crazy when u turn up resolution and eye candy. dunno about other users but i like to play my games at good-high settings.

I'm not running my X1900GT on a widescreen but I haven't heard of anyone having any problems with them on widescreens. I believe Newegg has a X1900GT right now for $199, I paid even less for mine. I like mine and would recommend it to others. They're good overclockers but tend to run a bit warm.
