NEW YORK: Despite their support for freedom of religion, 71 per cent of New Yorkers believe the planned mosque and Islamic community centre near Ground Zero should be built "somewhere else" and not two blocks from the terrorist-destroyed World Trade Centre, a poll said on Tuesday.

The Quinnipiac University poll said that 54 per cent of those interviewed recognised that "because of American freedom of religion, Muslims have the right to build the mosque near Ground Zero".

Those hateful New Yorkers don't understand the Constti----- Oh wait most of them do and they live in one of the most diverse places on Earth so are probably not bigots. Hmmm...

One more article does not warrant another thread on the same topic already being discussed in other threads.

For as long as there is even a single bigot left in this world, and we do not denounce that bigot every second of every day, that means we *all* are bigots and we all should be ashamed of ourselves.

And for that reason alone, we MUST build mosques on every square inch of this nation, just so we can continue lying to ourselves about our true inner nature.

Do they oppose the mosque four blocks away?

A doctor decides not to treat your cancer because he isn't sure if you need 25mL or 26mL of pharmaceuticals. You plead for help but he insists he isn't sure what the exact amount you need is.

So what you're saying is you're scared of more threads? Did you think the thread about the Tennesse mosque needed its own thread too? I'm not afraid of muslims, but you can keep thinking I am if it's easier for you to do than make an argument.

Not scared of any amount of threads, but does this poll deserve it's own thread?

Not really. I'm just trying to point out that your silly argument about precision over the limits is meaningless. There are a lot of important distinctions we make in this world where nobody knows the exact line is. Your red herring is getting old.

ehheheheheheh I think us New Yorkers... even the ones transplanted to So Cal are among the most bigoted folks on earth.... hehehehehe I still can hear folks using every name in the book against anyone not of the same apparent heritage. Especially while driving! New York has homogenized sections but folks never lose their linkage to the old country... so to speak...

The only folks who'd not mind a mosque at ground zero are Muslims, I think.
I get the sense from my sisters that Muslims did it... not terrorists but Muslims... that is ill informed thinking but it is what some or many believe.
So is that bigoted... I'm not sure but don't think so... they simply find folks of that religion to be haters of what others hold to be their truth... And, they believe the God of Islam demands they eliminate all the rest...
I find Islam to be a both peaceful and aggressive faith...

So how about a nice Catholic Cathedral at Ground Zero... much more appropriate, don't you think... hehehehehhehehee:whiste:

Actually, to put it into simple terms that even moronic neo-conservatives can understand: If the mosque doesn't get built, the terrorists win.

I'm sure the righties have a counter....But if the Mosque gets built, then that means the terrorists win!

If you allow fear to compromise your most basic principles, like say, freedom of religion.....then the terrorists have won my friend. Take that one to the bank.

Guess you'd not go for a statue of Buddha either. I know, how about a non denominational place of worship where all religions can meet and hate each other.

I'm sure most people would find a non-denominational center nearby to be okay. Personally I think a secular memorial surrounded by financial buildings is the way to go.

It makes no difference how many people are for or against the mosque in NYC. Only unAmerican assholes who have no understanding of principle, justice, fair play, religious freedom, the meaning of and purpose of the Constitution of the greatest nation on earth because of the greatness of that Constitution, oppose building a mosque there. If you are for the mosque you are a real American, if you are against it you are a stupid asshole. It's real real simple, black and white, cut and dried. If you are against the mosque move to some worthless country full of worthless shit just like you.

Yeah... a sculpture of Geo. Bush standing atop a rubble pile with his arm around a rescue worker... To sort of give the flavor of the moments back then. Use the actual steel from the former buildings to give it a sense of reality and all...
Maybe just a little one... and folks could come and pray to their God and remember the loss of lives and the atheists and agnostics wouldn't be offended cuz God surely is not reflected in that kind of ummmm artwork.
