Sure. Despite the fact that Cainam is a very valuable user in here, don't you ever look at dates?

:disgust:

haha, that was obviously a comment by a relatively noob. Sort of like when you get pwned trying to pwn someone else....btw, I'm not saying that in a derogatory way.

I'm not going to entertain you any longer. "Relativey noob"?
Its clear you troll around looking for arguments, chasing me down in HotDeals and trying to start an argument over LCDs/CRTs. Take a look at this tool here.
If you'd ever like to meet in RL so you can speak this way to my face, let me know big man. You might find chasing someone down and hounding them in RL like you do in this forum gets you some mixed results.
I'm in Cedar Rapids, IA.. and like they say on the Price is Right, COME ON DOWN!

I dont know how long Cainam has been into video cards, for all I know he joined in 1972 but spent all his time and effort in the CPU forum. I havent been here long enough to know.

Then it might be wiser not to make characterizations if you aren't familiar with forum members, don't you agree?
I don't have anything against you but you'll see Cainam more often when the appropriate time will come in video forums ;)

Was not a characterization, but a question.
Admittedly, a poorly worded one. A mistake on my part, unintended to become the centerpiece of Anandtech Forums. Now we can move on.

Or, everyone can get their self-rightous zingers in here before the next topic comes up.. whatever you'd prefer. ;)
Seems to me Cainam himself, the only one whose opinion really matters.. seems to be a pretty laid back guy and not worried about little old me as much as the rest of you.

Do you still think that " 6600GT is on par with the X700 at all games " (copyright Rollo, 2005)

Or did you back out of that one, and now claiming that X700Pro is better then 6600GT ? We all know there are different games and settings yielding different results, but can you honestly say that overall the X700Pro is better than 6600GT ? If so, then you're a complete fool, as for every scenario where X700pro leads the 6600GT you could find at least twice the number of scenarios where 6600GT leads by a bigger margin.

Some people can't admit their mistakes. That usually makes them even bigger fools, and certainly not worth taking them seriously. When you make thiese kinds of assertion in a forum as a response to a question someone asks about "what video card should i get" you are in fact misleading that person. I am here to warn them not to listen to someone like you.

And dont you think that MAYBE just maybe the benches he was looking at were using drastically different driver versions than the ones you are looking at, different versions of games used ect.?

There are plenty of completely valid reasons why his opinion might change from then to now..

I once said cookies suck.. well little did I know that the bakery added too much nutmeg that day.
10 years later, I discovered that when I returned to the cookie factory, they tasted great.
Then some twit recorded my comment from 10 years ago and plays them back today, acting like hes so much 'holier than thou'. But in reality its only because nobody has dug up a recording on him, when he probably has the worst record of them all.

Like anyone who was vindictively out to get someone couldnt find contradictory statements from everyone here. You are a real winner to be such a small person

But hey, if life really didnt turn out the way you expected :D.. and you are now either
A) Maintaining a Word document with statements made by Rollo
or
B) Sitting there searching purposely to find contradictory quotes from Rollos near 5-year tenure here, in a zing match to boost your big e-peen to makeup for a saddening reality.
PS. Stroking it does NOT make it grow! In reality, or online.

Apologies to your epeen, but someone had to break it to it eventually.

Wow what a load of drivel. It's very clear your posts are driven by personal motives rather than be relevant arguments to the point of discussions. It's really sad that you get off by trying to call people names. You will find it gets you mixed results. What a pathetic fool.

Back on topic, Rollo's statement about x700 being on par with 6600GT was made only 10 days ago, and I remember when I read it I immediatly thought it must be by someone who hasn't really looked at benchmarks so he doesn't know sh!t, but why would he go out and make a statement about something he doesn't know for sure and in fact is untrue ? Sure, while this is only an internet forum it's not like testifying under oath, but it's still irresponsible to make statements about things you don't know because someone may take this as serious advice.

user1234, BTW the topic is about new nvidia drivers on their website, not your topic >

This isnt about Rollo or housecat or you its about new drivers, so your of topic.

I think 99.9% of the length of threads on this forum are all because of Trolling and Flaming, at this rate the server is gonna need a bigger HDD.

All it goes to show is how much weight Rollo carries around here. He says something, you'd better snap to attention like a german nazi.

He's an idol to you.

He says something, YOU LISTEN YOU LITTLE ************!!!!!
You'd better be keeping notes on your master you little buttmunch!

I don't think Cainam has been around near as much since you've joined, I can vouch for his integrity. In any case, it looks like you've retracted the Cainam question 3-4 times already, so no more need be said on that topic.

Call Nvidia, or continue complaining.
I'm happy to use the registry keys because they work perfectly, but let's not pretend the driver interface works.

As I said, Doom3 uses mandatory 8xAF IIRC.
No it doesn't.

It more than likely does not allow changes in that for some reason.
image_anisotropy

I dont know, go talk to teh Carmack about it.
Carmack has absolutely nothing to do with it.

But I dont think it has anything to do with the drivers.
It has everything to do with the drivers. Or more accurately the control panel.

I just have a hard time believing there is a bug with Doom3 for Christs sake.
There is no bug in either Doom 3 or the drivers. The control panel has been designed like that. I'm complaining that it doesn't allow overriding Doom 3's AF level by design because it shouldn't do that.

I find it odd that custom resolutions it works for my MAME emulations and it does not for you.

Makes me wonder how reviewers use different settings like 4xAA/8xAF in Doom3 if it does not work? Powerstrip?
Mighty odd dont you think..

Ah, BFG, cut him some slack. I think we can forgive a guy with 6800GT SLI for thinking Doom3 has "mandatory" 8X AF. It's not like he's ever run it at less than "High Quality"?

If there's a way to turn off the 8X AF in "High" and "Ultra", I don't know it. Does the control panel override and allow you to force lower settings?

I was running the 61.77 driver. I had no problems with it. I was using it with a FX5900 and a MicronPC 19in CRT monitor. When my monitor died I replaced it with a Samsung 930b 19in LCD monitor hooked to the DVI output. When playing NFS Underground 2 I was seeing a garbage frame every 20 seconds. This was very anoying. I did not see this with the old CRT monitor. Updating the Nvidia driver to 71.89 seemed to fix the problem so far.

Is the recurring bad frame the same sort of graphical glitch you were seeing?

Ah thats it. I knew I read that in a review of Doom3 at some time.
I do run Ultra quality. I've never seen the lower modes.
My mistake.

Why bother with any reduced IQ settings when you have high end SLI? "Compromise" isn't part of that equation, it's for people who don't have the fastest gaming rig on the planet.

Have you ever seen a reviewer use something other than 8xAF in Doom 3?

I think we can forgive a guy with 6800GT SLI for thinking Doom3 has "mandatory" 8X AF.
See, I'm trying to force 16xAF. The control panel won't let me and instead I need to use the config file.

If there's a way to turn off the 8X AF in "High" and "Ultra", I don't know it.
image_anisotropy.

Does the control panel override
No, that's what I'm complaining about.

No problems so far with 71.89 in relation to random crashes though I've only really been playing Jedi Academy the last few days.

Not that it matters to me since I will no longer have an SLI system, but hey for the people that it would affect.

yes those dell widescreen res's are fixed

Uh, no they're not. There's nothing in the relase notes indicating that the widescreen DVI problem has been resolved with the new driver.
