7 killed in SUV - used emergency lane to pass vehicles on I-95

That sux that the kids were killed cause the driver was in such a hurry to get somewhere. I put most of the blame on what happened on the driver, but you have to realize that the type of vehicles invovled would have been a factor (ie: SUV's have a higher center of gravity, so on uneven ground, they have a higher tendancy to roll).

I came through Colo last september and some guy in a big ford suv run me and one other car off the road in the mountains, I got the licience number and do you think I can get any help from the Colorado highway patrol or any other agency in the state to help me find this guy? hell no. The guy that just killed all these kids has probably done this many times and no one in law inforcement would even bother with a report on him.

I agree...too bad they had to take innocent kids with them
Then again I have noticed a tendency for stupid people to breed stupid kids.

God help us if you ever have kids, we'll have to wipe drool off of anything we want to use that your kids have used... 😛

It's sad 🙁. People too much in a rush.

btw would a hummer faired any better as it is 'suppose' to be built much better then reguarly cars? Just wondering as I saw this documentary on how Arnie likes his hummers and thats how they started to sell to the public. They mentioned that they were much tougher then normal cars but is that still true now?

I drove by it on the south bound lane last night. You could tell it was really bad. The cops had tarps up to shield the scene.

Hard to imagine that happening last night, the driving conditions were great. Traffic was light, most everyone was going along at 75ish. Plenty fast given the cost of gas now.

The news just announced that they were in a rental vehicle. No doubt the guy driving wasn't used to the way trucks handle. Good thing he didn't live..

soo sad! innocent children never got the chance to enjoy life. 🙁

By that token, inncocent children never got the chance to see the sh1tty side of life either. So, in reality, it may be best to die as a happy, innocent child......
Although the deaths are still sad.

Of course the driver was the one that clipped another vehicle causing it to turn over.
People will often do stupid things but who knows the SUV may NOT have flipped over if it were a regular car.
Looks like a lot of folks here love SUV's. The safety aspect is the main reason I never got one since I tend to have a heavy foot.

I think a hummer would have fared better as it's got a much more spread out wheelbase and isn't as tall as the Explorer was that rolled. Also, a hummer is built to travel on uneven ground (different suspension set up which would have made a difference.

The H1's were much tougher than normal cars for several reasons. Mainly because they were the same as the military has, but with more comfort features helped out alot. I don't know what it would have done to an H2.

BTW feel bad for the kids.

You know it ,thats why he had to put SUV in the title ....

Sad story..people need to slow the fvck down and relax a bit...🙁

That has to be one of the dumbest assumptions I've read in awhile. And that's saying a lot considering how long I've been on these boards.

Poor kids.

Tool Face it, the only reason this is getting any airtime is because the vehicle was an SUV, heck if it were merely a sedan or a wagon then this story wouldn't have been a story at all....

I'm not an SUV hater, as I own one, and have owned a few. I have to say, in my observation, here in CA, Chevy Tahoe drivers, are absolute ego maniacs on the freeway. I see no other SUV drivers, who cut people off, drive insanely fast, and ride people's asses, like Tahoe drivers. Most other people who driver other SUVs are not so bad, from what I've seen. For some reason, Tahoe drivers stand out. On thing I notice, is when traffic is merging and everyone is slowing down, they are also the ones who find a hole, and floor it, not caring if people are slowing or not. Also they are the most seen still trying to get around everyone else, even though the lane has ended. They will just drive as fast, even if it means having to pass on the shoulder, just to make a gain a car or two.
One time a Tahoe passed me on an exit ramp. Yes, on an exit ramp.

Yeah I've had some tahoe drivers do some pretty stupid sh|t around me before. Although I've actually run into quite a few a$$holes driving explorers too. There's plenty of a$$holes driving every type of vehicle, but people in the littler SUVs like those CRVs and 4runners usually seem pretty docile. When one of the huge ones like the excursion or the tahoe come rolling up though, its at least 50/50 that they're going to be riding my ass, making piss poor passes or doing something else utterly retarded. Seems like the bigger the vehicle, the bigger the a$$hole. People in sports cars and ricers seem to be bigger jerks on average, but they're a lot less likely to kill me when pulling one of their bonehead moves.

So do SUVs flip over easier than cars? I forget.

They look a little top heavier than cars to me...so I would imagine so. Especially those Izuzu things...I'm always surprised those don't roll right the hell over while making a right turn at a 4way intersection.
