7Eleven in Taiwan is awesome. They're bright and clean, they have pretty good prepared food (baozi and lunch boxes), you can mail stuff, pay your bills and parking tickets, make copies and faxes, and the workers are young and very friendly. Stuff isn't marked up in price as much as in the States, and you can buy oddball stuff there (toilet plunger, disposable underwear, Hello Kitty stationary).

It's good stuff.

Walking out of my wife's house, I can look up and down the street and see six 7Elevens and one Family Mart. I know of three more that are around blocks and out of my line of sight.

Again, good stuff.

Japan has far fewer 7Eleven stores. I mostly saw amPM stores there.

yeah, the 7-11 in taiwan is amazing, in fact they sell food that's good enough to serve in the restaurant here in the states. check out www.7-11.com.tw

Oh, and stop eating at the friggen' McD's! You're NT$130 could be much better spent on much better food elsewhere, and you're making yourself out to be a typical American.

I'd also warn you against touching those stray dogs...

...and WTF is this with taking pictures of the toilets but not providing PICS of the hawt Taiwanese wimmenz???!?!?111

You're priorities are f'ed up.

Bigmacs are $130 NT?? McFlurrys were $69 last time I went and that's damn cheaper than they are here in the US.

You think 7 Elevens are that crazy? Look at Starbucks in Taipei. Go to the central train station and walk around there. Within a 2 block square there are 3 starbucks and 2 dante coffees and some other place.

And in Taipei, you can't just count 7 Elevens because they have that Quan Jia store which is a domestic clone of 7 Eleven. If you add up all of them all up including to the 7-11s, its pretty insane. It's literally like 4 in a block (1 on each side) .... scary.

Yup. I forgot the name too but they have a store that I'd say is nice than Best Buy. You know that store that uses yellow as its color... pretty damn large. Then if you go around the Taipei Main Train Station you will see a few underground entances and once you go in it's ljust all the small vendors each selling different things. Very cool. They all have these price lists printed out for you so you just grab them at each store and walk around. Half of them sell laptops, and at least the other half of the stores will carry motherboards, cpus, gfx cards... You see a lot of computers there running 3D Mark 2k3 demos, etc. etc... In the end it's not all that much cheaper. It's about Newegg prices or maybe a TAD cheaper.... I go mainly for the fun. I'd much rather buy on Newegg or Fry's knowing I can return or whatever...

I think in Taichong, I saw two 7 Elevens on the same block.

Meh, I could still clog that.

I've seen chinese style bathrooms in a Buddhist place only in Taiwan. I was shocked. I didn't know what to do. Otherwise, I have always gone in a western style bathroom in Taiwan. Then again i don't really take dumps in public (ESP in taiwan). I think ppl there need to learn to throw air freshners in the bathrooms? Makes it a lot more pleasant.

The combo meal is about NT$130.

I believe the "yellow" electronics store you're referring to is called 3C. During my last rig build-up, I went to the "computer streets" in Tainan and Kaoshiung. The prices (compared to Newegg) were about the same. Cases were a lot less expensive, but I had my heart set on an Antec case and I saw none... that and carrying the case back on the plane was going to be a pain.

The problem I had with the hunt for computer parts in Tainan and Kaohsiung was that they didn't have the latest of anything. Certainly they don't have the latest CPUs (by far), but they didn't even have the latest motherboards or video cards. Keep in mind that the stuff we buy is being manuafactured in Taiwan! It confused me that I couldn't buy it there.

It might be different in Taipei.

If you're in the market for Japanese electronics, Taiwan is better than the States. For instance, the Fuji digital camera/MP3 player that I own was never released in the States. They also have access to a lot more of the Japanese console game stuff.

Oh, and if you're into Gundam and other Japanese pop culture stuff, it's readily available in Taiwan. I always look, but I've never bought.
