What names should we use for the race this year?

  • Snowmen vs. Yetis

  • Ying vs Yang

I tried v7 on my Win7 machine and had loads of issues trying to get it to connect to send back results. Eventually gave up and just stuck with separate clients for the cpu and gpu.

Yes, but if not mistaken isn't there something about the v7-client finally becoming a little smarter then it comes to uploading and fetching new work?

Also, isn't there finally a new Ati-GPU-core that's v7-specific? But, does this mean that FAH finally works on Ati's without needing to change one million different parameters, and are you still needing to sacrifize a whole cpu-core to keep the GPU busy or is it finally possible to run other things also?

True, I forgot about the upload thing (I'm doing my bigadv on Linux with Langouste).

AFAIK Ati still uses more CPU than AMD but I'm not sure how much.

v7 works nice for me.

I really like the way it downloads the next WU before the current one finishes! 🙂
 
I'm in, though I won't be nearly as fast as last year - no job = no upgrades, and I really don't have time to find out what's wrong with my 3x 8800GT rig. Been one of those years when nothing gets done! But at least I should have the pleasure of finally hitting 10M during the race this year 🙂
 
Count me in too. Although it will have to be with my work box not my personal one, which is still in storage. The more points I get, the less work I'm doing :sneaky:

Work Box -> 2x Xenon E5646 @ 2.4GHz (~35k ppd I reckon)

Probably the wrong place to post this, but figured since it is for the race, I would ask.

I've made some video card upgrades the past couple of weeks.
Right now I have one GTX 460, 1 GTS 450 with one in shipment, and 1 GT 440.

Currently the GTX 460 and GT 440 are running under Ubuntu. The issue is that in linux, I can't overclock the nvidia cards.

My win7 machine has 2 video card slots, however the board is not sli certified, and I'm not even sure I would care about sli since this is mainly used for web browsing, pictures, etc. It's my main machine.

So, do I put the GTX 460 in the main machine, along with the GT 440, and then put the factory overclocked GTS 450's in the linux boxes? This way I can overclock the GTX 460 which has room along with the GT 440.

Or do I stick with the 450's on my main machine. Both 450's are factory overclocks. Currently I am at 827mhz from a 810 factory oc, and the one in shipment has 825mhz.

Unsure what the best setup would be for the most F@H ppd. Oh, my main machine is an X6 with a seasonic 620w psu, so I know it can handle two cards (the gt 440 pulls power from the pci slot anyway).

Thoughts?
 
As long as the main box (win 7) is doing alright with two GPUs, I'd say stick the 460 and 440 together, and put the 450s in the Linux box. That way, you'll have less headaches to deal with multiple GPUs in Linux (something I've never done), since they will be roughly the same.

Just moved the 460 into the win7 box and moved the 450 into the linux box. Won't be able to move the 440 until Monday/Tuesday when the other 450 shows up.
Then we will see what happens. The 460 runs hot and there isn't a whole lot of room between the slots.
At 68-70*C with the fan at 50%. The 450 peaked at 58*C.

unfortunately, i can't have it run 24/7. it'll heat up my condo somethin fierce. all my other folders do their thing at work 🙂
 
Nothing wrong with a little folding to keep the condo warm.
I have 3 machines with gpu's going in my condo. Haven't turned the heat on yet this year, and am hoping I can go until mid december before I do so (i'm in chicago).
45*F outside right now, and 74*F inside according to my thermostat. Oh, and I have the sliding door to the balcony open.
Facing west has its perks in the winter, but is brutal in the summer.

i live between condos on all sides. i have to run my AC to keep the temperature comfortable in here, otherwise it hits damn near 80 🙁
 
Hey everyone, I am back again after life threw me a couple curves. I am running a stock Q6600 with 8 gigs of RAM and a Radeon 6850. I am running V7 on the GPU side, need to do more testing on the CPU side. I will be running mostly at night to help with heating the house.🙂

I may also stick my PS3 out in the garage so I don't have to listen to it howl while folding.

My gpu's run hot in linux too. One is around 68 and one is at 72.
I'm going to make some card swaps on Monday evening to see if I can get a drop in temps.
 
The list of racing folders has been updated.
Now we need proposals for team-names!
When I get those, I'll make a poll ... 😉
