  1. OK, here we go again ... ():)

It is the time of the year 2011 when we should start organizing ourselves for the

3. Short intermission: December 19, 05:30 UTC - December 22, 05:30 UTC (The Winter Solarstice PrimeGrid Challenge)

Here are the rules:
1. Have fun.
2. Let others have fun.
3. Crunch as much as you can, as often as you can and as efficiently as you can.
4. Assimilating computers, adding members to the teams, switching teams, borging is allowed.
5: (Sid's rule) Whistle while you work; DON'T whistle while you sip.

I'll put the teams together 3 - 4 days before the race but the discussion about who will race against whom is open.

Count me in. With the hardware upgrades this past year my personal goal is to beat my total of 304,006 in last years race. Actually, I want to bump that by 25%. Why not set a lofty goal.

OK, how many forms do I need to sign? Is there a copay? This is therapy for not making a difference in the world, right? :p

Also, what kind of output can I expect from my GTS250 or am I going to have to sneak a hw purchase past the wife? ;)

I'm in :)

Do you still need to complete ten SMP WUs to qualify for the bonus?

I average 8,500 ppd on a GTX275

I think things changed on CPU SMP WUs.
Is it -bigadv I should run on my i7 920?
What kind of ppd can I expect on the CPU at 4.0?

Yes, if you have not qualified for the bonus before you need to complete 10 bonus eligible WUs with at least an 80% completion rate (with passkey of course).

Bigadv is still better than SMP, although not nearly as much difference as it used to be.

I plan to be there. No upgrades since last time, so I don't expect to go any faster.

How exactly are we handling this PG race? Personally, I'd suggest putting all GPUs on PrimeGrid, but leaving all CPUs on F@H.

It is - though PG folks may make a liar of me yet. :sneaky:

Anyway, I meant next month's race, which is PPS Sieve.

Anyone have suggestions on how to get the most points per day on machines with cpu and gpu?
Right now I have an X6 using the smp console client (win7) and gpu3 (fermi).

If I do anything on the pc, the cpu client takes a long time to get any work done.
here is the cpu log. You can clearly see where I started web browsing:

If UPS would have made a timely delivery today I would be able to report on the success. Now the wife will get home from work and I will have some explaining to do...:(

1. From what I know about F@H, if you have it set to 100%, you will get slow down, just as you have experienced. If you leave one core "open" (or 87.5%), you should be able to fold and still surf the web.

2. "It's better to ask for forgiveness, than for permission". Or you can lie and say it's a gift for someone else :D

I used the excuse that it was an RMA return on an old video card. She said 'whatever, just don't spend all night on that thing.'

For those of you that want to use the gpu3 client in Ubuntu 11.10, let me know. I think I can retrace all of the steps i took to get it to work. It was not fun.
Using it with a GT 440.

I believe you want to use -smp 5 on the console client at least. That usually would give me a more responsive computer and a bit higher ppd on my gpu folding.

That's how I set up my X6 during the last holiday race.

I'm in... But note, my sig is out of date. I am down to 4 boxes. And I can't seem to get anything but A3 cores (no big adv lately) and my 2600k is having problems even at 4 ghz. Its the lowest ppd of all my boxes.

No. You should be getting more like 20k ppd average AFAIK.

Well, now its getting 12k, but my 4 ghz 950 is getting 16k. It does 12 minutes per frame on the 6099, and the 950 does 10 minutes per frame.

Count me in among the racers as Baldurs_Gate.

Anything new since last year? Is it an advantage to try to use the new beta-v7-clients or isn't these working correctly yet?
