Question 6900XT, where are the reviews? When can we order it?

Today is 12/7, supposedly we can order tomorrow. But I have yet to find a review, and can we order tomorrow 6am EST?

AMD has not lifted embargo of reviews yet? Looks like no one cares. But if we can get this card for $1000, it is definitely better than paying $1500 on ebay right?

I was able to get one in my cart on amd.com and all the way through to final checkout but after having to refresh all the steps in between multiple times, I got the dreaded access denied on the place order page

Not very good value compared to RX 6800 XT. 3090 has more RAM so it at least has that advantage over 3080 and Radeons. Performance wise they are all so close in rasterisation that it doesn't matter. Pretty much the one which is cheapest is the best buy (and offers the features you want).

High end cards have NEVER been a good value. The price per performance ratio drops like a rock. Its been that way for 20 years. Unlikely to change now.

3090 has 2.4x more RAM compare to 3080 and according to Nvidia it can play 8k games. It is in a different league.

6900XT is enhanced 6800XT. So no wonder 6800XT is slightly slower than 3080 while 6900XT is slightly faster than 3080.

Considering RT and DLSS, I would definitely pickup the 3080.

Does having 2.4x more RAM suddenly make a GPU "different league"? What about all of these low-end GPUs with 2x more RAM than expected that never will be utilized, are these also better than their counterparts? 3090 is 10-20% faster at most, not enough for 2x the price to be justified.

Don't you realize that 3090 is also an enhanced 3080, with NVidia not cutting edges on VRAM count? While we might argue if 10GB is enough for gaming for years beyond, we can safely say that 24GB is overkill.

Both 3090 and 6900XT make no sense, don't justify any of these! Unless you really have a use for more GPU VRAM than needed for gaming.

This all assumes being able to buy these GPUs at MSRP which is a fairly tale of course 🙁

The 3090 is a ripoff, but the upcoming 3080ti seems like a clearly better buy over the 6900XT for the same price if you're going to spend that much. The 6800XT is a very good value though.

I agree 3090 is a rip off. It is for those to show off and brag. I am just a little disappointed with 8900XT, it is more like 3080 than 3090. No wonder its price is more close to 3080 than 3090.

Anyway, given RT support and DLSS, I will wait for 3080.

i completely agree but getting a 3090 is i feel a bit easier then a 3080 or 3070 and the original price vs markup is also the lowest amongst the other cards.

After writing that, I went and got one myself. We're all suckers around here. 😀 It would have been a ripoff compared to the 3080ti, but since there is no way that card is going to be easily available for $1000 and have 20GB memory like the inital leaks, it's actually a decent deal now.

The 6900XT seems like the rarest of all the new cards. The 3090 shows up every now and then but I hardly ever see the 6900XT.

The 6900XT seems to pop up reasonably often even outside the AMD.com drops, at least here in Canada. There were a couple Merc 319's at my local shop today. The 3060 Ti and 3080 are the truly unobtainable cards here.

This is what I get stock settings no OC at 3440x1440. My gtx 1080 only scored 7731 so this is 216.5% of that. 😀

Gentlemen if you are really seeking a new gpu you need to park yourselves on the Best Buy website on Tuesday mornings around 11:30 am eastern time. Set your browser (I used chrome) to all of the cards you are willing to buy and click in stock only.

I'd forgotten about it as I'd been at a doctors appointment and when my phone reminded me I went to their site and there they were in stock and ready to buy. No 6800/xt or 3080/90 cards or I'd probably stayed with nvidia or bought a 6800xt but nvidia topped out on the 3070 aib's near $800 and then cards jumped to the one I bought.

I only had a few seconds to decide and click add to cart to secure a chance, and I mean a chance, of getting their in stock cards. Their buying procedure has changed and you are not guaranteed the card unless you get it into the checkout process. I was in their waiting queue after clicking the first add to cart button (really adds you to the real add to cart queue) until it got to me and then the add to cart button turned yellow so I clicked it and immediately began the checkout process to secure it. If they are running out of stock then only those who are actually checking out get the cards and the other peeps will get dropped out and their carts will empty.

I'm going to keep my 1080 as a backup card and if PNY will ever honor their lifetime warranty on my 780ti I'll sell it once it comes back. I can't get anything from PNY when I try to rma that card which randomly goes black with no signal which is how I ended up with the 1080 in the first place.

Your rig looks to be underperforming for some reason or another. Memory out of sync? Your GPU clocks are jumping all around during Graphic test #1 which is kind of puzzling. If it was your resolution it would say Custom....I did a run with your resolution.

Here's a run I made on my rig after doing a fresh install. The CPU, GPU, and the memory are running at the default MB's clocks....Memory is defaulted to 2133MHz to boot. Setting my memory to 3600 CL14 gains me another 1100pts.

His score is right in line with what I scored at full stock on the 6900xt reference card I briefly had. The power limit is just too low and the card gets real hot even at stock since they tuned the fan profile for silence.

Compared to my 6900xt Strix LC which has a 14% higher power limit, higher clocks, and better cooling out of the box which scores ~19,500 GPU stock and climbs to 20,500 with some overclocking.

Also the strix overclocks better than my ref card even when the ref was on a custom waterblock.

I currently hold the highest overall timespy score with a single 6900xt.

You have a 5 series and I have a 3 series ryzen which have different architectures plus our cas ratings are different. My system had been up for a couple of hours when I did that run.

How my old 7920X pulled a higher cpu score then your 5900X
Is 3dmark still favored by intel processors?
I know intel used to cheat in 3dmark, but i honestly thought you would pull higher on that 5900X with same core count.
In real honesty i thought id even lose to Puff's 3900X.

But anyhow here is a direct comparison to the all mighty 3090.

Overall i think the 6900XT is a excellent card.
It was considerably cheaper, looking at 3090 FTW Ultra 1799.99 vs my 6900XT Nitro+ @ 1268.99

That run was with the out of the box default settings for cpu, gpu, and the memory defaulted to 2133MHz. SAM was not enabled.

Here's a run from my when I had my RX 6800 in the rig. The 6800's now in my secondary 5600x rig.

The CPU score in this run is more inline with what one would expect once the system is optimized for performance. I was pushing both the cpu and gpu to get the Legendary status which is pretty hard to achieve.
Normally the 5900x scores around the 15k mark.



The CPU score does fluctuate depending on how I play around with the boost behavior.

It seems to be especially good at lower resolutions, and is sometimes faster there. Maybe the best card for those 1440p 165hz monitors. The 3090 only pulls away at 4K or VR resolutions.

I just need a 5900X to pair up the 6900XT i have.
I find it ironic im having more issues securing the cpu more so then i did with the GPU's.
But i am patient.... i absolutely refuse to pay any scalper markup on anything.
Id honestly rather just wait it out and move onto the next gen if i need to.

Your clocks look like you're running your card at stock settings. The above tests show memory and core overclocking.

Are you trying to overclock or just running stock? 18,500 is what I would see on my 6900xt reference card at stock, even paired with a 5950x with SAM enabled.

You know I never checked the gpu bios switch to see where it was set. SAM doesn't work with the 3 series on my mb although I've seen some tests where it does with others.
