Question 6900XT, where are the reviews? When can we order it?

Today is 12/7, supposedly we can order tomorrow. But I have yet to find a review, and can we order tomorrow 6am EST?

AMD has not lifted embargo of reviews yet? Looks like no one cares. But if we can get this card for $1000, it is definitely better than paying $1500 on ebay right?

My 6900xt showed up today! and it works!

My questionable ideas have also worked (so far):
adding a PCIe expansion slot to my itx mainboard by sacrificing the wifi card
and running a 6900xt, Vega 56, and a 4790k off a 7 year old 650w* power supply

While I was able to eth mine with no problems on that power budget, to game & mine at the same time I had to turn power sliders to minimum**. This lost a 100 points off the 3dmark score ( 12200*** to 12100 ).

** -50% on the vega, and -10% on the 6900
*** it is paired with a 4790k from 2014, delighted with what I have 🙂

Although it doesn't include a 4790K, the 4770K is bottlenecking the 6900XT in the newest Assassin's Creed game and that's probably the case for other newer titles as well. Upgrading to a newer CPU would probably give you a 15% performance bump if that one game is a good indication of average performance.

I'd probably just suggest a new build at this point so you can leave the old one as a separate machine that can do its thing.

I agree with all of your conclusions.


However, I am not willing to spend more money on my computer at the moment*. It will likely have to wait until next year and perhaps the Ryzen 6000 series or discounted 5000 series. I want at least 12 cores, good memory, 2TB NVMe ssd, and new high wattage PS. That will likely cost more then the 6900.


*on the other hand according to the mining calculator that 6900xt makes $5.90 a day, so it should pay for itself in 169 days ...
