Stop ripping them off. If they keep taking losses who do you think is going to lose the legit services?

Give the guy some credit. It makes sense to me what greg has to say. Legaly you can argue that the price of said item, G1 cannon is priced higher then the other one. And since total price is higher and the G1 should be pricematched the overall price is ignored. However Amex can argue that there is a overall percentage discount. But as stated by Greg, Amex has not done so in the past. I dont believe this can be considered as fraud.

Unless I missed something.

Yes, they can do that , and I pointed that out. In fact, I was actually trying to persuade the CSR to do it, because I wanted to be 110% sure I would get it before I did the pricematch. They said no, they would not take the discount into consideration if the overall bill was $750 or higher, with $750 being the price of the camer aon the website.

Mark it down, I predict Amex eliminates the price match program within a year. Like their free ISP, they are not gonna keep supporting something that loses them alot of money.

A few people, like gregg, are going to ruin it for everybody. Just because it's "within the rules" doesn't mean you should abuse it. This clearly isn't fraud but that's hardly an excuse to keep doing it!

You all don't seem to realize that everything balances out in th end. We are among the slim few that know about it's PM policy and even some people here don't actually MAKE USE of it. Out of the amount of customers AMEX has, that is an extremely small percent that they are losing money on. And I would take an educated guess that the number of people that pay late fees is MUCH higher...

It's just like a retail store selling something at a loss... They got you in the door, and that was the whole plan from the start.

And like their free ISP that got you in the door they can pull it since they already got you. Abuse of it is just gonna make it go away that much faster. Abuse uhh I mean maximize it while you can.

Abuse? If it is their policy, how does that constitute abuse? I call it USE. My guess is that AMEX will kill this within a year whether or not you USE it or not. It is simply an ill-founded policy. If you believe that it will go on forever, you are mistaken. The question is how long will it last. This program makes no sense from a business standpoint unless it was started with the belief that like rebates, people would not participate. The people who jump on the "X will ruin it for all the others" are naive. This is capitalism baby, work the system or get worked over by the system.

The program, IF logical and business savvy, will live a long life. If not, it will not. Think about this, I am at my yearly limit of $1000 already. Amex has paid me $1000 for what? For using their card. What is my interest paid to date? less than $50. There was a NY times article on this program and how much money it lost this year. It is a poor policy. It is anti-capitalist to say that one should not push this policy to its limits. I guess I see this forum differently. I see it as a way for the early adopters and people on the ball to make out. I really don't share the "spread the wealth evenly and thoroughly" mindset. Its dog eat dog for me. That's what makes a strong market.

OK, I don't get it. How can you pricematch a camera + flash to just a camera? You should be pricematching the camera to a camera and the flash to a flash. Otherwise you are being dishonest, since you know it's a scam to begin with. If your conscience tells you you're being honest, more power to ya.

Is that why you deleted your whole post? Funny you would do that if you felt you weren't ripping them off.

I think what he did was questionable, but as far as the pure PM ability, everyone should be using it whenever they can.
