It's the death knell for my X800XT PE, but it's wasted playing Sponge Bob in my five year olds box. He'll have to survive with the 6800NU AGP.

Most interested to test the 6800NU SLI. FS benches make it out to be as fast an an Ultra, and I scored two for $480 shipped at newegg with their "Refurb Roulette" program.

Such is my mania.

LOL!! You aren't kidding. Which ones did you get? I'm actually pretty interested in these benches. I think the 2x 6800NU SLI option is too often overlooked, and there are very few benchmarks available. Even new, the ~$600 pricetag for two 6800's is not unattractive if they will perfrom beyond what a single Ultra (UE) will do.

Don't suppose you're looking to get rid of that X800XT PE for a discounted price? :D

Should be fun to test- double the frame buffer(RAM), 24 pipes/10 VPs, performance between 6600GT SLI and the Grail $850 6800GT SLI, should be fun.

Now I can find the limits of both (6600GT and 6800NU) and post a more comprehensive picture of what entry level SLI is about.

Keysplayr2003 is trying to raise money to buy it selling a GT currently, so I haven't considered other options yet.

128MB or 256MB? Looking forward to seeing the numbers either way :)

Edit-

Duh  clicked your link. Cool that you grabbed the 256MB offerings, wondering how this setup will hold up at high res settings vs your 6600GT benches :)

I'm guessing it will give me the additional capability to play at 16X12 4X8X on some games, and a solid 12X10 4X8X (as opposed to 12X10 2X8X) on others based on what I saw at Firing Squad's review. And check out the single OCd scores that pace/beat a single 6800GT?
http://www.firingsquad.com/hardware/msi_nx6800/page12.asp

Looks like a win/win to me.

Not a HUGE difference, but when you consider all I'm losing in the exercise is a X800XT PE my 5 year old uses 95% of the time and doesn't know or care, I couldn't resist. ;)
(and I have a 6800NU on the shelf to power his Sponge Bob antics anyway)

Mostly, this is the rig that has always intrigued me in the SLI line up- costs right around one 6800U, but has 8 more pipelines and 4 more VPs. Perhaps the "6800GT" of the SLI line, yet other than Firing Squad there is zero available info.

Thought you guys might be curious as well. ;)

Ooops- forgot- by high res you mean pushing my monitor to it's 19X14 limits at 0X0X or above. Be sure to remind me Ben, and I'll run them. :)

Rollo:

I have to ask, what do you do for a living? It seems like you are buying highend cards every 3 months hehe.

Were you thinking about unlocking the pipes and VS on those? Is that still feasible? I put a 6800 in my roomie's computer last fall, but have never looked into unlocking the pipes as he only has a 1024 LCD....

I am a "Systems Support/Training Analyst" for a software VAR. (a tech support guy)
I mainly log on to people's networks remotely and fix their mistakes, write/modify reports, configure the software, show them how to use it, etc.. It's rarely dull. ;)

I'm married to an accountant, and have one wild five year old, who's an excellent XBox gamer. :)

The PCIE 6800s do not unlock, they are second gen nV41 chips with fully functional PVPs and 12 pipes only.

How do you know they are fully functional? Are all the features even enabled yet? Whats working on them that isn't working on any 6800?

Yea, I am wondering what this would result in, especially since you got the 256Meg Leadtek...

Go Rollo, you should just have Anand put you on staff ;)
Looking forward to the benchies :)

As an odd request, do you have the game Chronicles of Riddick? (Quite good actually) I hear the PS2.0+ graphics mode really chews up a 6800GT (I'll try it later), but I'd be interested to see what SLI does or doesn't do for it. LMK Thx!

New here, but quick question: Why is the RAM only clocked at 600mhz? I notice some of the boards have 256mb and are still at 700. Won't that impact memory bandwidth a lot?

Anyways, I look forward to your results as I will be building a new machine to upgrade from my old P4 with a 6800nu AGP card soon.

Thanks,
Jason

Thanks for the compliment, but I don't think I'm high on Anand's recruiting list....
;)

I don't have Chronicles of Riddick. If there's a demo I can test, I will, and I'll consider buying it if not.
