Topweasel can u explain that again?

"This may be why they are running them at 350 instead of 425, if they can be unlocked by only validateing them at 350 would mean that there is a higher chance of failure trying to clock it up to 400+ ruining a couple of peoples overclocking attempts."

Do you mean that if you overclock a card with the 4 pipes locked it will fail but unlocked it works ok? Why would that happen?

lol @ st: as a student i can barely afford games nevermind a new mobo and case and psu and gpu.

sorry typhoon, didn't mean to knock on ur system...my brother is a student like yourself and iwewas able to recently upgrade his old barton system affordably (to us anyhow): $150 mb+cpu+psu + $100 6600gt...everything else was reusable. i did not mean to sound elitest but was tired of the banter here back and forth especially in light of a "rumor". in all honesty, if i had a agp system, i'd really try to snatch up a unlockable gto2...very mean overclockers!

aww fantastic! Didn't realise you had a shuttle. Well theres my question answered it does fit!

Is it noisy?

@ST: I'm in uk so it's a bit more expensive but your bros system sounds similar to mine. I upgraded from a pentum III and ti4800 last year. Any links to a gto2 i'm treating myself to a gpu when i finish exams. Have been finding AGP cards hard to find (cept for 6600gt's). I basically want the fastest gpu for under 200. Would prefer nvidia because i think their shaders come out sharper.

I did try the core at 450MHz, but my 3DMark score fell, so I knocked it down to 420MHz. I've not tried pushing the memory past 1.1GHz.

As far as noise goes, I've not put the cover back on yet, but it seems quite quiet. With the cover off, and after an hour of Q4 the GPU temperature is in the high 40's. To be on the safe side I'm probably going to cut a circular hole in the side of my Shuttle that matches the position of the fan GPU cooling fan, this way it will be sucking external air into the case, rather than circulating internal air..

Before you thread crap, read the entire thread, and then when you see that it's not a "rumor", but a reality, you can leave punk 😛

Looks like the AGP 6800GS is a good bargain after all since you can unlock the extra pipes... get's a Wolfie

Okay, I'll officially give my endorsement to the card (for whatever it's worth). It's now "official", you get a 6800GT for $230 bucks... not a bad deal.

(Oh, and Apoppin, it's kinda late for me too, as I already have a 6600GT and a 6800GS in the house, but with the success of unlocking the GS, it's a good deal and I will recomend it to my fellow AGP friends).

Someone asked for proof that I'd unlocked my AGP 6800gs, so here are some images/files.

RivaTuner1
RivaTuner2
RivaTuner3
Packaging
Installed
Overclocked
3DMark Excel file

Hope this is helpfull to someone.

Wow, that's a tight fit in that little Shuttle case. Why does RivaTuner read it as a 6800GT? I unlocked my 6800nu AGP and it still read 6800 16x1,6vp in RivaTuner.

Other than that though, good job man. Those are good scores with the AXP chip and that gpu too.

i will recommend it also . . . and now that i DO have my x850xt . . . it's 'nice' and 'fast' and all . . . but i would definitely have hung with my 9800xt a bit longer IF the x1800/1900s came in agp. 😉 [it's just over 2x faster . . . i can play Serious Sam2 @ 10x9 with everything maxed AND 4xAA/8xAF [max "shiny"] . . . whereas the 9800xt could manage 10x7 with most details high . . . no aa/af . . . not bad for an "antique" in a "pathtic" rig.

😀

ANYway, thanks for the Wolfie seal of approval.

Plus they don't make unlockable GTO^2's for AGP

Don't have Excel- could anyone tell me what the score was?

It was 5488 (it was 4200 before the unlocking and overclocking), but bear in mind I'm only running a AMD XP2600+ with a 333MHz fsb, so it's not exactly a top end system.

Why does RivaTuner read it as a 6800GT?

I was wondering that, at the end of the day I guess the card is really just a repackaged GT anyway. I'm not sure how RivaTuner gets the cards name, i.e how it's embedded in the GPU.

To those of you who say "you can overclock both and teh GT will still be faster" I have to say that the 6800GS is the best overclocker out of the whole GeForce 6 series. I have the card I am able to push it up to (if not higher) 560/1.32 with no artifacting. And to my knowledge the 6800GT is not able to do that. So that is why people should get the 6800GS because of it's overclocking factor, if you want stock performance then get the 6800GT or the 6800Ultra

Um, you are talking about the PCIe version correct? This is an AGP GS thread, and as much as i want to believe 560 core, I just don't think that is possible.

Thanks! It gives me a general idea of the card- I was one that was waiting for a newer AGP card to come out before I bit the bullet and went(cheaply) with PCI-e. I still have a Neo-2 AGP board though and this may be a good card for that mobo as a backup gaming system. Now I just need a X2 proc. for it for around $200......
