6600GT - evga or XFX?

I was looking to purchase a 6600gt come the begining of January. I was just interested to see what manufacturers everyone would recommend. I just read a review on the BFG 6600gt OC. At the moment, "cumbo.com" is the only website that offers it for $250. So unless newegg or someone else gets the BFG for a little cheaper, I think I will choose between the evga and xfx. Let me know what you think
Specs:
P4 3.06 w/ HT
1 Gig ram
GeForce4 ti 4200
Antec 400watt PSU
Soundblaster Audigy2 Zs
17" Samsung LCD

I went with the XFX. Then I read about their horrible customer service in the video card forum. Not really sure how I feel. The card works great, the dual dvi is kinda cool, and the software bundle is top notch.

go with eVGA, xfx customer service sounds scary...after reading the xfx thread, i will never consider buying anything branded XFX.

you never know what happens a month+ after purchase.

Well I am also considering upgrading my graphics card, and still exploring, my friend bought an XFX 6600GT AGP early Dec when it's first available (since he can't find it anywhere else), it work great and run smoothly even on some extreme settings in Farcry and Doom3.

Be careful of the driver upgrades though, new drivers not necessarily work better or more compatable.

oh yes, I also checked my friends regarding the issues in the other threads and h3nG, he havn't encountered those issues, and he's really a fanatic that he really play the games all day and night. Maybe the other people don't have enough cooling in the system? these high end cards nowaday takes lotsa power, so be sure you have at least 450W power supply, a good casing (my friend got 6 fans) and a good MB (Asus is best in my experience).

btw my friend change from eVGA to BFG due to bad experience with eVGA, now from BFG to XFX due to product quality issue despite their lifetime warrenty - who needs lifetime warrenty if the product doesn't have problem... maybe it's just bad luck for my friend.

Probably I'll still do a bit more exploring first and settle for the next product from XFX.

I am surprised no one here has mentioned the Leadtek 6600GT. This is a PCI-Express card right (or does your motherboard still AGP?). In the Anandtech roundup the Leadtek does very well and runs much coolrer than the XFX. I am not familar with the eVGA.

My plan was to go with the Leadtek Winfast 6600GT PCI-E. This is based on hardware site reviews and this forums recommendation.

Cheers,

Kerry

So easy to pick.

XFX you can buy at Wal-Marts ok
EVGA you can't buy at Wal-Mart

there you go. You can chose from a Wal-Mart brand or a Mall type brand you pick.

I have the XFX 6600GT and its a great card. Got it when the AGP version came out from zipzoomfly. I have had no problems with it. its a great card. Also the last time I went to wal-mart they had a Made by ATI card too, and they only had low end cards. I wish wal-mart carried high end cards then I wouldn't have to order them from the internet any more. 😉

Silly logic there, Wal-Mart could easily own Newegg or ATI & Nvidia tomorrow they are so globally powerful - doesn't mean people wouldn't buy their products still.

I personally own the AGP XFX 6600GT and have no problems whatsoever with it. It's inexpensive right now, buy it get it over with and start enjoying your games and stop posting here! 🙂

LMFAO well I guess my Wal-Mart here in Oklahoama City isn't up to par with your guies Wal-Marts. They used to sell XFX but like the low in kind (PCI) only. And they funny thing I bought one and it was jacked up so I went to RETURN the thing and they lady wouldn't take it back because she said they don't take back SOFTWARE so I had to explain to they lady for about 30 minutes how computers work and how software and hardware is different basicly she had to get the manjor for help.

Well anyways Wal-Mart isn't a bad place to buy a Playstation or Xbox as far as electionics goes but seeing how a video card is one of the most important part of your system I wouldn't feel comfortable of buying from a Company that allows there video cards being sold there.

I'm sure there is some kind of computer store where you live like: Bestbuy,Compusa,Frys,PC Club etc to buy good quality video cards then over the net.

By the way you don't have to flame to prove that Wal-Mart is a good store I never said they where a crapy store. I just using wal-mart as an explain of quality that XFX was thats all. LOL didn't know there was so many wal-mart lovers.

Maybe this is better:

Ford Truck: XFX
BMW: EVGA

Better? or does some of you have ford turcks?

The wal-marts around me have ATI cards, so does that mean ATI are crap too??? Also They carry a BFG card. Hmmm. You have a very interesting idea of what is crap brands because of who carries it.
