6600GT - evga or XFX?

Dude don't flame I just said my wal-marts here just sell xfx. They don't sell BFGs and no BFG isn't a bad video card. As far as wal-marts goes even yours I don't think they sell 6600 gt PCI EXPRESS cards I'm pretty sure they still sell the old PCI or maybe if you get lucky they might sell an AGP.

Like I said in my last post I was just using Wal-Mart and the Mall as a analogy. Plus don't be looking on wal-marts web site to prove me wrong I'm talking about going inside the acually store and why would sombody buy a video card from a Wal-Mart web site any ways? They wouldn't.

A video card of the same brand is the same at any store. Either circuit city or wal-mart. I also never said wal-mart sold top end cards but I did say they sell a few different brands (in store). But if they did carry XFX6600gt it would make no difference if I bought it from best buy or wal-marts. Same card.

I have the XFX 6600GT's in SLI, run great.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the XFX has better memory than the competition; the XFX cards are far superior to ANY 6600GT, since they have 1.3ns memory and not standard 2.0ns memory.

I bought an XFX, i would of went with evga if it offered dual dvi, but alas no, I have not needed to deal with XFX customer service, I got the new forceware drivers, and got it benchmarking 8150 in 3dmark03

Might wanna try to bring that up. The rig in my sig crested just above 9k 3dm03 before I overclocked the GPU. At the current OC'd speed, it marks just shy of 9600. Granted, a slower processor and memory may be holding you back, but 8150 still seems a bit low for a 6600GT.

ahh, well i'll give you a bit of my system information, im running a Pentium 4 E 3.0 Ghz, with 256 x 2 dual channelled kingston value ram, would that explain the slower benchmark? im planning to upgrade to 512 x 2 dual channelled ram, would that up it a bit?

It's probably the RAM. 512 is a bit low. That, and my CPU is a little faster, but CPUs in 3dM03 don't mean much. When I OCd mine frmo 1.8 to 2.2, my 3dM03 went up 200 points, that's it.

I imagine when you're packing a full gig you'll probably be in the neighborhood of 9000, where you should be 🙂

Besides, don't sweat 3dmark too much. If youre GAMES play well, that's all you need to know 🙂

Ahh don't worry I ain't sweating, and I actually was mildly happy with the performance of my 6600GT, but not happy enough, It runs 1024 x 768 on medium quality doom smooth like butter, though i get some lag when i bump it up to high quality which I found unsatisfactory.. though i did assume that was because of the 512 ram. i was hoping 1 gig would cure that.

sorry for hijacking this thread a bit macko, but Insomniak do you know of any good sites with benchmarking results with system specs? *Nevermind found a good site*
