6600 Preview

Well, aside from OEM's, there goes any and all sales of X600XT's. Unless of course nobody knows any better.

If it uses the same core as the 6800 and can have the other 8 pipelines re-enabled using a soft-mod... Whew! What a screaming value THAT would be.

From the diagram, it seems the 6600 series uses a different core than the 6800 series, but I don't know if there are any extra pipelines...

Megatomic, that's exactly what I'm waiting to see. I plan to budget around $200 for a video card this fall. I'm curious to see how the 6600's and 9800's compare. They both seem to be around the same pricepoint, at least for now.

I wonder how it competes with the 9800 series. It would be nice if they had released actual framerates and not multiplied performance relative to the x600XT. The core looks promising, but he 128 bit memory bus does not.

On another note, did anyone else notice that there isn't a molex connector on board? At least I can't see one.

Great, can't wait to get one NEXT YEAR cuz we all know their will be nil availability.

After all, its been 4 MONTHS since the 6800 Ultra cam out, and their nay impossible to get.

Why doesn't nVidia just wait until mid-September to issue the press release, so then folks who read it know they can probably get one within two weeks, instead of 4-8 weeks from now!

Way to go copying and pasting the same thing that you said on the news comments!

I'm leaning towards the notion of getting a dual PCI-X16 mobo now, what better way to upgrade hraphics than just buy ANOTHER CARD! double your power yo! 🙂 Plus that sounds really cool, 2 cards are better than one eh 🙂

EDIT: Think about it, what if nvidia branches this SLI thing down to its lowest end cards? The possibilities would be interesting.

It uses a .11 micron process. Its a totally different chip, it will not have extra pipelines.

When these cards are released, I dont think itll be worth persuing sli on a geforce 5200/5700/5900. 149 is already pretty low-end hwen you consider the $500 for a 6800 ultra.

As for comparisons to 9800 series cards, the 20% number was mentioned, which is probably pretty accurate.

If you buy two 6600GT cards for SLI, won't you just be getting the same performance as a 6800 Ultra?? And then you have to spend Hundreds of $$ for a Dual PCIe slotted board.

IT really just seems like a wash with two 6600GT cards, and a loss when you have to factor in the extra cost of the SLI capable motherboard.

But hey, logic never stopped anyone from spending big bucks on 'cutting edge' technology!😀

OMG where are all the other games OTHER than Doom 3? Who on earth would want to buy a new card for a game that has less than average replay value right out of the box? Oooo, its good with Doom 3, must be the best midrange card ever...please...

Their video comparisons kinda get me. Is that really what NV video in has been like? I use an ATI TV-Wonder to do my tuning and it looks like the 6600's NEW crap. My TV-Wonder is pushing 4 years since I bought it, so that hardly seems groundbreaking. Maybe I'm missing something.

HOLD THE PHONES! A 6600 GT is 20% faster than a 9800 pro? SWEET! 😀

Yeah, this is getting old! When the hell is someone going to give us a review of the PVP???? I can't make heads or tails from that little tease.

Forget the mid range stuff (won't be much above my 9700pro anyways), lets see some availability and most importantly - price drops in the high range. Besides this does not look like a great improvement over cards already available in the same price range.
