Umm, that's about 181mpg. Amazing. You probably lose more fuel from evaporation when the bike sits than from riding it.

errr, actually that's more like 48 mpg.

Errr, no, I'm right:

77km/L = 47.8 miles/L * 3.7856 L/gallon = 181 miles/gallon

Geez, no wonder I am looking at 250s. I've never driven a car that did 0-60 in under 4 secs so why the hell would I want my first bike to be that fast?

I suppose I'm not looking for a superbike suicide machine but something to cruise around town and across the countryside.

FWIW, it isn't as fast as it sounds. Strangely enough, top speed is under 120mph, and it'll take you a while to get there. 500cc bikes have tremendous acceleration, for their displacement, but the lack of torque and overall power limits their top speeds. For comparison's sake, a car with <4 second 0-60mph will trap the quarter in well under 13 seconds.

My bike makes a pretty good stoplight racer, where you end up racing 1/8 mile or so, though I haven't actually raced it yet to test my theory. 😀

(by the way, the speed numbers aren't from personal experience. they're from a website run by a guy that tested it himself with his own EX500)
