must be shoulder blades hitting ground and then perpendicular body on the way up, hands behind your head, with legs at a 90' bend with pressure/knees on your feet for stability

how the fuck will i ever achieve this?

i'm 6'1'' and sort of larger build, not skinny but not stocky. very long torso

I don't think this is possible

Anchor your feet and use your arms (elbows if you have to keep your hands behind your head). It's not actually that hard. How fit are you? Do you participate in any sort of regular exercise? If so, what exactly do you do?

I lift weights regularly 4 times a week, I TRY to do cardio (boxing/jogging) but it is pretty sparse

Within the last 2 weeks I've been getting more intense in cardio, and also doing abs again, (in preperation for a possible fitness test)

I am running a 13 minute mile and I need 8 minute 1.5 mile
I am doing 40 pushups and need to do 50-60
I am doing 38 situps in 1 minute and I need to do 40-50
I haven't yet sprinted a 300m run so not sure about that one

What kind of a fitness test is this? I don't know much about running, but from what I remember from high school a sub 6 minute mile is pretty good. Maybe I'm out of touch. Should the average person be able to pull off a 6 minute mile? 5.5 minute mile? 5 minute mile?

You might want to change up how you're working out throughout the week until you get through these requirements. If you're not focusing much on cardio as it is you would probably benefit from doing so now. You're going to want to focus more on running obviously... 1.5miles in 8 minutes is running at 12mph~ which is pretty quick for most people (myself included). If you have any fat you can lose, it'll benefit you in making it easier to run faster (less weight to carry). This would make your pushups easier as well.

You're almost at the pushup and situp requirements so you shouldn't be too worried about these. Are these on the floor situps or using a decline bench? Either way you can hold a weight plate behind your head to increase the amount of work done which may help you get over a hurdle if you're stuck at 38.

WTF are you testing!? An 8 minute 1.5mi is damn fast...I've never seen an agency require that.

That's insane. I don't think more than 1 in 1000 people can do a sub 6 minute mile. Let alone 1.5 miles.

8 minute would seal the deal, 10 minute would be actually just fine

15 min is unnacceptable

ran a 10 minute 1.1 mile this morning

I could have ran further, but faster? I may have thrown up and I don't want to do that around all the nice people who were there.

This was slightly hilly ground so I suppose on a flat track I could have done 9;30 min 1.1 mile.

Don't continually do 1-1.5mi runs. You need to do longer runs to improve the oxidative ability of your muscles and your ability to pump blood. Start upping the mileage a bit and run slower. That will definitely allow you to improve without feeling terrible every time you run.

I did 180 in 2 min back when I took army PT. And 82 pushups in same. Something like 29 pullups/... Its possible. I was 18 and wrestler tho. YMMV/ I'm almost 40 now and can out PT you. Lifting weights is not being in shape it's looking good and not much else but heart attack waiting to happen without cardio. WANNA PASS THE TEST? Train for the test. Run. Sit-ups, push-ups.4x a week instead. Muscle is useless w/o endurance. You'll find that out first hardheaded wiry 185lbr that is willing to go past 2 minutes.

Edit I just seen you want to be a cop. I got cop friends that wheeze going across a pheasant field through tall grass...try a different department,

Ive got six months to two years to get back in shape, plenty of time. Ill admit i was vey dissapointed with the speed of my situps (tying to maintain perfect form), but i will just keep plugging away until i make it. 60 in a minute is considered ite, doing more wont help me more on my cumulative score.

My last timed situps i did close to 30 in 30 seconds but i began tapering off due to endrance and muscle fatigue. Zebo, you going to offer any reccomendations on training routine or just gloat as usual? ;)

Im going to organize a fitness routine for this work week and see if i can execute. Will update my results on my anandech vlog

Gloating is part of it:D i.e. get your mind right you can do anything any other human can do if you work at it. Think positive you can do it... the mind really dictates all.

Second I already said train the test. Stop lifting.

Good luck.

Yesterday, ran 2.2 miles in 20 min, first 1.1 lap in 9 min. I ran just about 100% effort, hampered mainly by breathing and not in any way muscles although my legs did feel like jelly.

Situps 38
Pushups 30

Will run every tues + thurs + sat + sun
Will box on mon + wed
Will elliptical on Friday

Doing situps and pushups every day

Still lifting weights 3-4 times a week

60 situps in 1 minute seems weird. Wouldn't that promote throwing your body weight up for faster times, which can be very detrimental? A slow situp is a lot more hard work.

Shrug, seems weird to me.

Yeah, i dont know how you can reasonably do 60 in one minute without fudgingsomewhere in proper form,

Ata absolute minimum i need
43 situps in one min
48 second 300m sprint
40 pushups
1.5 mile run in 11 minutes 30 seconds

Or i can be better than requiered in one area and underperform in another to get the same point spread

So basically almost every "requirement" you've stated in this thread so far, including the title, hasn't been a requirement at all. People would have been a lot less incredulous if you'd given the actual requirements up front. Are these the real ones now?

My goal is to overachieve so i can receive honors and also give some room for error. I still want to meet some of the expectations from op

Its definitely possible with correct form, but REALLY REALLY difficult. Back in my Army days I once did 101 situps (cuz I was in the 101st airborne) in two minutes which was even tougher.

I was a situp champ though, I did 360 straight as part of a competition, at slower pace of course.

I used a lot of hamstring strength to compliment core strength to do it.

Do you think doing slow, weighted situps would improve your faster, weightless situp time?

No.

He needs stamina. He needs to train stamina. Work off of 80% of your 1RM for 2-3sets.

1.5miles in 8.5minutes would be f0cking tough mate...

Yeah that's a fairly blistering pace. At my fastest I ran 2 miles in 12:45 and that was pretty damned fast. My fastest 1 mile was 5:50 which wouldn't be good enough.

[/QUOTE=mizzou;30420650]

I was sick with the stomach flu wed-sat.

got outside for the first time today

Situp 37
Pushups 32
ran 2.2 miles in 19 minutes, first 1.1 in about 8 minutes
no 300m sprint, but I also did 15 minutes of the elliptical machine, and a light weight routine for upper body / back

Did x3 more sets up pushups and situps until failure after 1st timed event.

I'm hoping I can do 40 situps, 35 pushups and run the 2.2 miles in 18 minutes in 2 weeks, then ill start training my 1.5 miler and see where im at
