Why do you want it to be socially acceptable for white people to say that word anyway? Would it make your life easier? I don't see people going around bitching about why they can't call asians go0ks or mexicans sp!ks?

WOW. YOU ARE DENSE!

We are adressing the FACT that many african americans get quite antagonistic when the world is used by someone of another rae, as if that world is "special."

The contractiction comes in their insistance on keeping the word alive; as if its new meaning of "comrade" is somehow acceptable, and is somehow exclusive to blacks because it was once used as a derrogitory remark for them during the age of slavery.

It jsut doesn;t make any sense.

It is still a derogatory term. I don't freak out and go ape sh!t everytime I hear it. I do not care when my friends (which are all white) say it. But if a white comedian did the exact same sh!t chappelle does in his show I would flip.
Xionide, are you black?

Bi-racial

vanilla/chocolate.
cool. so you don't mind being called the N-bomb? or just by certain people?

Very specific people.

We aren't using the word as a means of coping with a "somewhat lack -of-heritage"...
I'm not saying that it's right for us to use this term in reference to each other but that's a different argument.
The argument here is whether or not it is fit for people of other backgrounds to use the term.
If you want to look at matters in a cultural perspective, you will realize that every culture has their own unique terms that they refer to each other within their culture with. A term which if used by a member of another culture, especially someone they know absolutely nothing about, they get offended...

For example, gays have their own terms they refer to each other with but if someone heterosexual was to use on of those terms then it would be hate.
If I was to call a caucasion "white trash", they would be offended, unless, it's one of my friends, in which they know me and they know i'm just messing around when I say that. The same thing works vice versa, if one of my white friends were to refer to me as a n!gger, I wouldn't necessarily be offended b/c I would know the person saying it and would understand the context it is being said in. A lot different from someone outside my cultural background or someone that i'm not friends with.

The "nerve" that is hit is that the US is vibrant mix of cultures, and many cultures witnessed african american slavery, and as "americans," some feel that it is not a "black"word, but an American word that is definied only by hate.

The lack of culture that I speak of is in reference to the intertwining of black and overall american culture due to their development in this nation. Most other cultures arrived here for their own benefit.

African americans were brought by force at first, so they are truly products of America which causes tension when they try to divide that which they dub "american" and that which they dub "black"

Bascailly, the word serves to personify a MAJOR clash of cultures.
