6' DVI cable (DVI-D) $0.99 @ mpja.com

Can someone explain a really basic question, where DVI fits in? I'm aware of 'component cables' (which can be used with progressive scan DVD payers though I'm a little vague on the relationship), and HDMI as the better cable connection, but unclear where DVI fits in, how I'd be likely to use it, for what devices.

It's my understanding that HDMI = DVI with audio

You'll get the same video quality, but no audio with it. Useful for things like computers. My computer has DVI out, not HDMI. Need an HDMI-DVI converter :-(

Tried to add to cart but it won't let me. Probably sold out. Can someone else try and update me. thanks. Sorry I am talking about the Amazon.com DVI-D cable.

Luthien I just ordered one. Went right through, although as allies said, five meters?!?!. I don't know what I will do with it, but I like cheap things. Even if I have no use for them,

Thanks for the info. I think I also see 'dual dvi' mentioned a lot as a desired feature - is that just for using two monitors?

Spoken as a real hot deals member.

Hm, maybe I have use for 5 meters - I have a tv on one end of the living room, a projector on the other and am thinking of setting up a HTPC that could be used with both.

Yup, but it's great to NOT get ripped off by Monster Cable.

I remember seeing a tv show of people getting high end home theatre setups, and one of the people was the founder of monster cable. Damn nice house he has... mansion, really.

Wow, $10 shipping!

He said after shipping, not shipping.🙂

I can second the goodness of this store as an online retailer. While their shipping for one item might be high, adding more items doesn't jack it up a lot, like you can find at other e-tailers. Definitely recommended. 🙂

the OP's deal is for a 6' cable NOT 5 meters, this is the regular DVI cable that you are given when you purchase a DVI video card, or a monitor. I have 2 or 3 spare ones sitting in my storage. imho, this cable length makes it worth worthless.

on the other hand, if the 5 meter cable from amazon (currently sold out) is a buck, it would be a hot deal.

hmm... will i really notice the difference from my media pc to my 26'' olevia switching to dvi (currently using vga) --- moreso is dvi really going to make a difference on my olevia? my cable box is hooked in via component, so it's moreso an issue with watching dvds / recorded tv

Don't bother with the Amazon's 5-M Monster DVI cable. Here is the letter I got from the seller:

Hello,

We are writing in regards to your order on Amazon.com. We have researched this
item and it appears that a data error on the Amazon site caused a discrepancy on
our product listing. The details were uploaded incorrectly, which caused
different product SKU to be associated with a $3.50 price and to say that this
item is in stock.

Unfortunately, it is completely unrealistic that a 5 meter Monster DVI cable
would sell for $3.50. We also do not stock this item right now. Therefore, we
will not be able to send this product to you. Because of the error, we have
gone ahead and cancelled your order on Amazon to maximize your time to find the
product elsewhere, especially for the holidays. I have consulted with Amazon's
merchant support team and this is their recommended solution.

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience or confusion caused by this issue.
If you need further assistance, please contact us at customerservice@amazon.com
or call us directly at 1-800-447-0420.

Thank you for your understanding and we look forward to doing business with you again

The site says
"Minimum Order: To place an order, the subtotal must be a minimum of: $15.00"

Thats too much and shipping is not cheap too.
