Test drive both cars. If one of them moves your boat more than the other get it. If you feel about the same towards the two, get the most reliable car. Owning a car with poor reliability really sucks.

BMW 325xi-330xi offer much more driver enjoyment IMO, and definitely more reliable than any audi...g35x is nice i guess, but meh....it doesnt do it for me

I'd go G35 anyday than A4 and its small ass civic-sized interior.

I'll admit that the A4 is pretty cramped... but "civic-sized" is a huge overstatement. They also seem to be pretty reliable too.... I have 46K miles on my 2003 A4, and the only problem that I've had so far is a dead speaker in the driver's side door. I guess that's my fault, actually.... I probably shouldn't have cranked up the stereo up to "30" while rocking out to techno 🙂

Correct.
And even if you claim the G35 is a rebadged Nissan, at least its a clone of a fairly reliable vehicle (unlike the VW/Audi).
And with the '05's, the interior is improved as well as build quality.
The manual tranny is a non-issue because a manual is not offered on the G35x.

I would go for the G35x...I've liked it since it came out. I don't know how soon you plan to get this new car, but the '05 G35x has even more improvements, i.e. 20 more horses. The G35 also seems more of a sports sedan than the A4, with its rear wheel bias.

i've got an a6, and ive noticed the horrible reliability problems as well. granted, its a used car, but it breaks down all the time. in 10 months:
control arm = money.
electric windows fail during rainstorm = sucks.
leaking washer fluid = annoying.

yeah. the quattro is really nice, but keep in mind it will break. on the other hand, i have a nissan maxima which has broken once or twice in 6 years.

A4 has a rear wheel bias?😕

Civic: 42.2" / 36.0"

F / R SHOULDER ROOM:
A4: 55.1" / 52.6"
Civic: 52.6" / 52.0"

PASSENGER VOLUME:
A4: 90.1 cubic ft

No, he's saying the G35 has a rear wheel bias. It's more similar to BMWs AWD system. Both Audi and Volvo us a FWD bias AWD system. For bad weather, Volvo's haldex system can't be matched. It's not so great for performance though.

Off topic... saw a new Mustang today. Those are pretty. 🙂 Maybe you should get those. Who cares if you die in the snow or whatever. At least you look cool dying.

Who gives a fvck if the Audi is a rebadge VW or if the G35 should be called a Nissan. A good car is a good car. Heck, if Lada started rebadging the G35 at a lower price I would buy it in a heartbeat. Don't get me wrong....snob appeal and image is important, but these are 30K cars. Not over 60K.

I would take the G35. Legacy GT is great too.

Yeah, I'm confused too. Unless I'm doing some REALLY stupid driving manuevers, Quattro does a really nice job of keeping a 50/50 power balance.

But, hell, what do I know... According to some members of this forum, I'm just driving a glorified Honda Civic 🙂

hmm....i need to drive a nice awd car one day

<----recoverd from a spinout @70mph on the freeway due to some female and still managed to recover

Automobile Mag did a test of the G35X vs. the A4 a while ago. They actually preferred the G35X's AWD system to Quattro IIRC. I can't find the full article online right now but there is a section of it posted here: http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=1300725

Personally, I like both cars but I'd probably go with the G35. It's a versatile vehicle with a great engine and they've addressed the interior quality issue this year which I didn't even think was all that bad before.

I don't know how Quattro is forward biased. it should be 25/25/25/25.

center diff is torsen, which can shift between front/back up to.. whatever percent. i forget. when locked its 50/50
front diff is open
rear diff is also torsen, also lockable.
torsen is sort of like posi.. but not.

My car is older style quattro, pre torsen.
so open diffs all around, but you can lock the center and rear, from inside the car.
when all wheels have traction, distribution is 50/50 (becuase they're open differentials)
when center diff is locked, distribution is 50/50 no matter what traction is..

On the old style quattros you can go a billion miles per hour with the center diff locked. I believe the torsens auto-unlock at 30 or 15 (forget) MPH.

So i fail to see how this forward bias exists?

For what Model year? And what version of each?

Forward bias exists in that when you floor it from a stop, most of the power goes to the front wheels.

Now, that's likely because there's more weight in the front of the car, and that gives better traction, but... meh.
