5ms still produces motion blur

I have an Acer x203Wbd. It has a 5ms response time and often when when pacing side to side ,driving a vehicle, or turning quickly the game environment is blurry. It's easy to test by reading letters while moving. Also the monitor says it displays 16.7 millions colors due to dithering but there is a lot of color banding. I thought Hi-FRC fixed color banding.
 
I love my 22" Acre with 5ms response. 🙂 There are a lot of 2ms LCD's out there now, maybe that might better suit you? On slow laptop screens I see ghosting, but on the 8ms and 5ms displays I've had/do have I never notice it.

All the 2ms LCD's are 22" which I don't like. I prefer 20" since they're sharper.
 
Well you could always spring for one of the Dell/Sony 24" Wide CRT's. They do something ridiculous like 2500x1500, will also do 1080p with 100hz refresh. They're heavy as my nuts, but good stuff. Sounds like the negatives to LCDs (there are negatives to Plasma as well) are bringing you down. Don't worry, a few years will pass and LCD/Plasma will be gone, OLED or Laser will kill them and be far better than anything that's come before, even the venerable CRT.

FWIW, I'm on a 2ms 22", and happy as can be. I don't game much though.
 
I have a S-IPS Dell with either 16 or 8ms, not sure, but I play a lot of fps and never see any lag or blurriness. I have pretty good vision too, but maybe it is just your monitor. If we are to go by response time...heck no idea.

All the 2ms LCD's are 22" which I don't like. I prefer 20" since they're sharper.

You have a pretty stout graphics card, just turn up the AA. 🙂
 
Vsync does not solve the motion blurring. I can understand exactly what the OP is going through. When I bought my first LCD, a Samsung with 8 ms response time, it was supposed to be a great gaming monitor at the time - with zero ghosting. Now I don't notice any ghosting, but the monitor makes anything in motion blurry. In CS I completely lost sight of my target if I turned quickly, so I had to rely on muscle memory to aim. If I move something across the screen, like dragging a window, then the content of that window (text) becomes illegible. Meanwhile, if I do the same thing on a CRT I can read the document while I drag it. So IMO, CRTs are actually easier on my eyes than LCDs.

But now a question: To those who have 2ms displays, is motion blurring gone? Is it reduced? By how much?

I have a 2ms display and I just tested while dragging this very window and it was slightly blurry but nothing to go crazy over. I could still read the content. I have never had a problem with blurriness in any game whatsoever. I made sure that I spent a little more on a higher quality LG panel with low response time.

my post had a lot more merit than yours. i fail to see any reason other than you just want to whine about something you should have done more research on before buying. waste of bandwidth.
 
My monitor has a 16ms response time and has no blur. High quality panels fix that, those micro-response times are grossly understated. Read any article on lcd monitors that actually test them before you buy a 'gaming' monitor.
 
Using an Acer P223w

the only time I've noticed blur is when watching the documentary Rize

in games like Fallout 3, Team Fortress 2, or GTA 4, I haven't noticed any blur caused by the monitor
 
They all produce some amount of motion blur. It is a limitation of the technology and they can't lower the response times beyond a point. How noticeable that blur actually is depends on the user, the type of game and the framerate.

I can see it easily in anything with smooth and slow camera turning motions. This includes most space sims and some third person shooters.

Don't worry, a few years will pass and LCD/Plasma will be gone, OLED or Laser will kill them and be far better than anything that's come before, even the venerable CRT.

I hope so. The whole display market has gone to a complete standstill in the last two years. It seems like there is no demand for anything better.
 
dude... you probably paid more for your triple channel ram kit than your monitor... reminds me of that saying "you get what you pay for"

Phosphor lag, which can be seen as a green image trailing the rest of the image. That is its form of ghosting. Besides, they would burn-in or get image retention. Despite what Plasma TV owers say otherwise, burn-in still exists, they just call it something else - long lasting image retention that can sometimes take a very, very, very long time to reverse, dampen, lesson with the use anti burn-in features if it is even possible. There is a lot of controversy over the subject. I believe personally that it is obvious that burn-in is actually phosphor aging and that using static images with different colors (thus different luminance) ages things differently. It is never a problem if you are watching material that doesn't have the same image in the same exact spot over and over like a Desktop, or a computer games HUD, etc... Anyway, I think Plasma based monitors would be a horrible thing until they can truly figure out a way to age all the phophors evenly. I love my plasma TV, but I have to be sooooooo careful. The history channel channel logo is basically burned-in on my set. Can see it in a full white background and only 20% of my TV watching was history channel based - go figure.
 
With Vysnc on when I game I see no blur at all none. Its just as smooth as my CRT was back in the day. I've got the LG L227 22 inch lcd..
 
also, plasma has two big problems that lcd's don't have: its too expensive to make "small" panels, 24" is small for plasma(that's why there are only huge plasma tv's) and the second problem is that it causes eyestrain, the closer you are to it the bigger the effect so it's horrible as a monitor

Your monitor is a God among monitors... Well, close enough. I love my LG. Best monitor I have ever seen, used, owned, PERIOD. I agree, I don't see any ghosting on mine either.
 
+1 for LG 22" monitors for being a god among monitors. I have the W2252TQ myself 🙂 Better than every other monitor I have ever seen or used, including the extremely high quality 21" flat screen Triniton CRTs that can go up to 2048x1536 at 75hz.
