5770 aftermark coolers?

I haven't kept up with aftermarket coolers in a while. I'm considering buying one for my 5770 eventually and wondered if anyone knew what would fit and work well for it. I'm not looking for a silent solution...just something that won't get louder than it is currently, but still cool it more than stock.

I've heard that a number of coolers are too "wide" for the 5770, meaning that they extend past the IO panel. I know someone fit a Zalman VF950 and a Thermalright HR-03, but I'm not sure if they cooled it any better or not.

I do have a VF700 sitting around...the memory heatsinks are gone, but I could get more. I wonder if that would provide better cooling than the stock heatsink (V1)? Like I said, I haven't kept up with this all for a while.

Any suggestions?

Do you want better temps or are you concerned about noise?

What I would do if I were you, I would find revision 2 of the HD5770 and then you won't have to worry about switching anything...

This thread will give you some idea what I'm talking about...

Today's stock coolers are good enough if you ask me...

I want better temps with hopefully less noise. I already have a V1 5770, and the cooler is loud/doesn't do a great job for as loud as it gets.

I didn't read your initial post slow enough, lol, in that case just wondering, what brand is your 5770? Anything other then XFX and bye bye warranty. If you ask me VF700 wouldn't do that much better than the stock cooler that came with the card. VF700 could be a good replacement for a single slot card such as a 8800GT for example but not for a dual slot one. For the record I had two VF700s and vf900 at one time or another and currently run a 5770 version one...

It's the Sapphire 5770. If the card ends up dying on me, couldn't I just put the original heatsink and such back on and be fine? I've heard of people doing this without much issue. (Yes, shame on me)

As for the VF700 not being much better, have you seen the pictures of the 5770's V1 cooler (disassembled)? It just looks disappointing overall. I don't see how the VF700 couldn't cool better than that. I might just have to test it when I'm home for Christmas break.
