5670 Review

Hardwarezone have their 5670 review up early(don't think the others are due till the 14th):

http://www.hardwarezone.com/articles/view.php?cid=3&id=3109
"Not content with their dominant display of late, ATI is following up on its recent successes with a brand new graphics card for the more budget-minded, the Radeon HD 5670. The new Radeon HD 5670 cards will be powered by the Redwood XT GPU, which has 400 stream processing units, 20 texture mapping units and 8 raster operating units. Its core will run at 775MHz, with the memory at 4000MHz DDR. Memory bus width will be kept at 128 bits width (similar to the Radeon HD 5770 and Radeon HD 5750 ), and the new cards will come in either 512MB or 1GB flavors"
Looks quite a bit above the 4670, perhaps +50% in places, also just above the GT240, sometimes even breathing down the neck of the 9800GT.

On the negative side, runs a bit hot(suspect using an average cooler as the cards wattage is not that high) and AA at higher resolutions isnt so good. Supposed to come in less than $100.

Edit - Other reviews are out as well as anandtech's above:

No it doesn't say that, read it again.

Read the whole review also. I see only one game benchmark where it can beat a 9800GT, Dawn of War II at 1280x1024

Your correct. I read it wrong. Those power consumption numbers are great. Will replace my power hungry 9600gt's

I have a eVGA 9600GT SSC and I think its a great card for its price (bought it for $63 in Sept. '08). The 5670 is a better card but not by much.

Considering that you have two 9600GTs, I don't think it would be a good upgrade. Sure, it uses only a small amount of power (I also like really low powered parts). The 5770 seems like the lowest reasonable upgrade for a 9600GT owner. It is hard to decide what to upgrade to with that card because it has pretty good performance (when not using AA, I run mine at 1920x1080) for its price and power consumption. The 5770 is a decent upgrade but I don't think it would allow me to use 4XAA in every game. Even if it does, I don't think AA is worth the $100+ premium (after selling my old card).

Edit : JUst read some sites. Rumor has it this card will start off at 89.99

I think $60~70 is fair.

I know that ATi will try to get the most possible for it, as long as possible. But when prices settle down, that it what it is worth. About 9600GT pricing.

Ed,

ZZF has a HIS 5670 listed for 159.99. They must be mad. 🙄

GT 240 DDR5 is $100, and this is a superior card in virtually every way. Those wanting pure DX10 or less gaming performance at that price range will try to find a 4850 if they can, or a 9800GT. But if you want super low power gaming performance this is the way to go.

It's a 9600GT killer, and that card offered similar performance to an 8800GTS 640MB. Now you can get that same performance (or a bit better) for uber lower power consumption.

Pretty sure i'm buying two tomorrow. Might be three if i can Trifire on this board

If you are thinking about buying three lower end ~$90 cards, you'd probably be better served by a single 5850 for about the same price

This card isn't too exciting for me, but it does what it should at it's price range. It competes with the GT240, seems to be even faster in general.

+1. Avoid the CF scaling issues and just get a single, good GPU.

CF these might not be a bad idea if your budget is tight and can't get them all at once though.

Yep it's been pulled but I didn't like that review much they were all 512mb cards which is fair but they tried to run too high of resolutions. I expect this card to debut at the same GT240 pricing for the DDR5 versions.

There will be 1GB cards available as well

I know, that but they were testing pretty high res or 512mb cards is all. No one will be buying these for 1920*1200 gaming especially the 512mb versions.

I really like them because of the power consumption levels. Totally destroy my 9600's
