Has anyone had any experience with the EVGA 2GB 560 Ti? The egg has it for $280 vs $250 for the 1GB 560 Ti.

Some of the reviews say it runs quite hot if you SLI and that aftermarket cooling would be a must.

As far as money goes i have no problem paying $30 more for 2GB of VRAM, I just wanted to know if any of you have tried it out.

Thanks for your time.

The reference cooler does not run hot. I have an EVGA GTX 560 Ti FPB (850 Mhz vs. the 822 Mhz on the 2GB model). It may be a 1GB model, but it has the exact same cooler. I can't imagine the extra RAM causing it to run substantially hotter. Mine idles at 34C and hits 69C - 73C while gaming with the fan on auto (and it never goes above 50% and is very quiet). While that may not be the answer you want since its a 1GB model I still don't think you have anything to worry about. Do you plan on SLI?

my case is going to be the HAF 932 advanced so i dont think case flow should be a problem, was also considering aftermarket VGA cooling as well if anyone can recommend?

btw, i know the evga is a lil pricier than the others but alas ima fanboy, going for the z68 ftw mobo to

The case you've chosen has a 230mm fan directly above the cards -- that alone might be enough, if you're going to stay with air cooling.

The twin frozr's really work well keeping these cards cool -- I've had 3 MSI gtx560ti's (1gb) so I speak from personal experience.

id like to keep all air if possible, also considered replacing the 230 with 3 120s

Galaxy has a 570 w/ 1280mb for $260 after MIR. Ive heard galaxy is decent and good with warranty, so does this seem like a legit buy as well?

yes. I have a gt570 card myself but mine is thier custom version that I actually got for the same price what the reference one is on sale now for. and just sent off for my rebate yesterday too so hopefully that will be here sometime this year, lol. its hard to tell with rebates though as they usually go to some random rebate house. in fact my MSI motherboard rebate went to the same exact address.

Galaxy is a very good company that has been around for a long time as they used to make cards for other companies. I even called the tech support to ask a question and there was no waiting or menu and an actual person answered the phone immediately and answered my question.

then that appears to be what i go with, SLI'd 570s with 1.2 seem better than SLI'd 560s with 2GB, especially at this price

If you game at 1080p or below, 1.2GB per card will be fine for 99% of the games out there. The GTX 570 is a better deal for the prices you listed.

2GB is a good idea for the future even if you don't run at 1080p. When games start using higher precision frame buffer formats, then 2GB will be necessary.

I actually recommend an evga 2 GB GTX460 if you can still find one, because the GTX460s run a lot cooler than the GTX560Ti and with 2 GB the performance difference will be minimal.

Also, if you're worried about heat, then you could always replace the stock TIM (at least on the top of the heatspreader) with AC MX-2. That's always a good idea because it made my GTX460 idle 3C even cooler than it did compared to stock TIM. Just be sure to pour Artic Silver Remover and Purifier on a lint free cloth (probably a body wash cloth) and scrub it on the heat spreader to remove the stock TIM and to purify the heat spreader before you apply the AC MX-2.

Thanks for the advice :) I will keep this in mind when i actually buy the parts. Right now im just trying to learn as much as possible so I am able to build a pc that will last me a few years considering its looking to cost me around $2,000.

Looks like the egg has 2GB 460 GTX's from EVGA for $215 each, at this price i would almost be tempted to just go ahead and buy 2 of them now, though my wife may consider removing my man parts if i do....

I prefer to game at 1080p as single monitor is the way ill always wanna role. If this will be able to handle games such as BF3 and Skyrim, then hellz yes, 460s here we go.

While im here, if i want to SLI, should i get 2 256bit cards or buy the WIN2 at 512bit?

edit: It looks like the 2WIN is pretty fail, everyone recommends 2 460s

I have and would recommend the 1gb 460's for 1080p every day of the week and Sunday. It was just last year that AMD was promoting eyefinity resolutions with 1gb 5870's or 5970's. 1gb can even be enough for most 2560x1600 games with minimal AA. It's a positive that AMD is starting to equip their high-end cards with 2gb, because it does not hurt anything but it is not really a deal breaker at 1900x1200.
