So what? My wife and I paid a lot in taxes. It seems to me like you're a whiny spoiled kid who only wants to point out the negatives in life in relation to their wealthy lifestyle. I went to a small rural public school, a public university for my BA and MBA and self-study for my CFA charter. Both my parents were union workers, albeit college educated, but they didn't give me much support.

Somebody paid the taxes to build the infrastructure to operate your business. Somebody paid taxes to make your school (if public) operate to get your masters degree. Somebody paid taxes, likely higher, to allow your parents to be educated.

This country is about building our people up through infrastructure and success. If you want to look at rich people not doing this, go to the ME and see how easily it is for rich people to horde their money, not invest anything in their people, and allow them to wallow in poverty.

Your examples of the "escalade" and "welfare" are hyperbolic bullshit. For every one person who abuses medicare or welfare are 10 people who don't. Think of the kid who isn't dead because of medicaid.

I deal with self-centered rich assholes all of the time. The more wealth they get the more they forget how it was to not have wealth. It's disgusting.

You should consider starting your own scholarship fund for a high school or college. Giving a few g's here and there to whom you deem worthy is pretty fun i think.

You'd probably have to bend over and worship a bronze AoS statue to get it, and repeat several lines about how AoS pulled himself up by his boot straps and is a self made man.

Patronizing crap like this is one reason a lot of people hate the rich.

And the "poor" who think the "rich" just stumbled upon their money and didn't work hard and take risks to get it are the reason a lot of people hate the poor.

You sound like someone who is "disadvantaged" and very unhappy... you are probably in the boat of those who think it is all luck.

Yep. It is. And the 1% that we call oligarchs and selfish opportunistic assholes are helping to build that infrastructure, same as everyone else who pays taxes.

As I said before, I'm happy that I can pay taxes. If I cannot pay that kind of tax, I'm not making that kind of money. But I am by no means rich and cannot stand the way people talk about the 1% as if we all have houses made of gold and diamonds and wipe our asses with hundred dollar bills.

No, the people who think it's all luck are just as silly as the wealthy who think none of it was luck.

Exactly. The AoS wants to lump me in with people who think it's "all luck". Nothing could be further from the truth. I know lots of wealthy people, and for the most part they are all very hard workers. That does not mean that luck did not play a role in their fortunes, and it does not mean that everyone who earns lower wages works substantially less.

Please, I know what it's like. I also know that you live a far better lifestyle than almost all Americans. I also know that the more you make the bigger the gap, it is not linear. Even in a higher COL, like southern CT where I live, after a certain income level, you're not sweating much.

Don't give me the bullshit about gold and diamonds or wiping your ass with $100 bills. You're feeble attempts to polarize the issue in such a manner are pathetic and telling of how disconnected you are from reality.

Really? So if someone that makes more money than 99% of the population of the richest nation in the world isn't rich... who exactly is?

Different chart. Note that this is for "families".

inequality-page25_1.png

wait.. top 1% of individuals is $380k/yr.
but top 1% of families is $1.1M????

lets see... if husband and wife both makes $380k, then combined its 760k. so i dont understand the how it became $1M for top 1% families? where did the other 340k come from?

and Apple Of Sodom, is your family household income in the top 1%?

Yep. And $380K is a far cry from the hundreds of millions execs make. Again, the point was that we need to stop beating up the 1% people because not all of us are the problem...not any more than the top 5% are the problem.

Ah... still alot of money from my perspective.

Don't hate the player, hate the game 🙂 Keep #winning OP.

This is the problem with people like him. He may not be "wealthy" per se since he may not have millions saved. However, he is absolutely "rich". I'm not saying this because I'm jealous.

The benefits the the people in that tax bracket can recognize are immense. They (we) enjoy better healthcare, better retirement benefits, better housing, better food...etc. To say they aren't rich is really intellectually bankrupt.

I avoid discussing my own situation mainly because it's nobody's business. However, I'm not some arrogant asshole who thinks that it was purely hard work or everybody else was purely luck.

I guess there's a difference when you're grounded in reality. It's easy to get lost in the money. We live pretty modestly compared to how we could live.

What I will never understand is why so many people who make so much less than the top 1% so willing to give them more. It's like they are brainwashed by the money when they don't even have it.

That picture is showing averages for the people in each group; I believe the $380k figure would be the lower boundary of the top 1%.

It isn't that it is so rough...It is that I work very hard only to see massive amounts of money drained from my account without nary a thank you from those rolling around on Cadillac Escalades while they organize their food stamps.

Let me be the first non-working person to say thank you to you. Keep up the good work.

$380K is quite a large sum of money. I doubt I will ever make that much money per year unless I change job focus.

That is showing median. Yes, it is. But it is in the bottom of the top 1%.

So you made ~$500,000 last year and you're complaining to a group of strangers that the general public think "the top 1% is evil." I guess I can check off money can't buy you happiness as true.

Sounds like you need a hug or a 12 week vacation in Fiji.

And acting like attending grad school was a sacrifice just shows how out of touch with reality you are and how silver spoon your life really has been. Want to know hard work? Have you're parents pull you out of school when you're 13 and work installing tile for 45 years. Or never go to school and become a millionaire from cutting grass. That takes hard work. Things like college and grad school are a privilege.
