Sorry robcur, but my bs meter is pinging and you're the cause. The reasons for distrust are stated and you're saying we should distrust resellerratings instead? I don't trust you, bub. Not at all.
Did I miss something or when exactly did he say to "distrust" resellerratings? I can't speak for the guy, but it appears he's saying not to take any source as gospel. If you guys want to live by ratings alone, you're leaving yourself open to ratings manipulation. And tell me, what science is there to subjective comments made by people? Is it possible that one person's 3 out of 10 is the same as another's 6 out of 10? Is it possible (see my earlier post) that mostly unhappy users are more likely to rate?
Look, I did a little research on robcur's previous posts out of "current" messages. In Hot Deals, I've seen him post at least 4 different sites. I've seen no evidence that he's trying to prop up this particular site exclusively at all.
If the resellerratings info is correct about the spam solicitation for reviews, so be it. They violated the rules with offers of free software for someone's good reviews. But it is interesting how they worded point 2. of their spam, if true: "2. If you're happy with our service, leave us a positive feedback on those
sites." Note the words "If you're happy...". So, they're really not asking people to lie, and people who are unhappy with their service are unlikely to help them out anyway. Why would someone who experienced bad service take a chance on posting good reviews for the hope of getting free software? But they are violating the rules, or at least did, if this email is to be believed. No one, however, is suggesting that they are posting false reviews, which ResellerR says would result in blacklisting, which has not happened.
You can say all you want about the merits of this "deal", but come on, give the guy a break. If we're getting to the point now where people get trashed just for posting deals you don't like for one reason or another, then that's one sorry state of affairs. The deal's been posted. References to the ratings have been posted. People can decide. Lighten up. There's more to online deals than NewEgg, people. It's a great site and I'm glad they're there, but I love competition, too.
