Lite-on might be the best, but us-depot.com certainly isn't. Spend the few extra bucks and shop Newegg, Mwave, or ZipZoomFly.

do not trust reselleratings, it is quite evil. there are good repetitive company that cares more then the customer. some corporation may even fake their review to get a higher rating, so be weary of what is being said their. what this mean is that some of the reviews are not real, posted by employee of the company who tries to up their rating. due to a bad economy, and frustrated people, most negative are are due to a misunderstanding. so I would take everyting being said there as a grain of salt :D
and btw, newegg is not the best. they sure are popular but its not too healthy for one to stick to just one or two vendor. it all boils down to how much $$$ you like to burn..

robcur, i trust your words, but have you ordered from us-depot.com recently? if yes, i assumed you had no problems? i would really consider this lite-on for $25 shipped (since i am building two new computers).

yes i ordered before, shipped within 24-48 hrs. was a 160gb wd/seagate hd for 82.00 free shipping, got it within 4 days and works great. was a seagate but even better. have recently placed order for 8xdvd optorite burner as well for 69.94 because need something cheap and works great. This is not my first time or second time with them either, have placed a few orders in the past and all was shipped in a timely manner.

The fact that NE or ZZZ have a near perfect rating, that tells me there were no "mis-understandings" to begin with. And if there was, they dealt with it in a way that left the consumer satisfied with their experience enough not to hastily post a negative.

While I'm sure that a small percentage of reviews are fake, Newegg in particular has never had a need to "boost" their own ratings.

Any company can offer a good product, at a good price, and get it to you in good time. However, it's how they deal with the problems that determines just how good of a company they are.

I think I'd rather give this company a try than purchase a $50 - 30MIR drive from Newegg (or some other "trusted" company). $25 no rebates from a potentially questionable company is less of a risk than that rebate in my opinion.

also consider disgruntled employees or competition may leave negative ratings against companies.

Your same drive @ NE is $32 shipped for retail, or $31 shipped for OEM.

Consider this. You're getting a BARE DRIVE for $25. Add the latest version of Nero, as well as the audio cable and mounting screws you get with the OEM version from new egg, and you end up paying $38. Oh, want retail? Add $1 at NE, or add $10 at US-D.

And regarding the "disgruntled employee" ratings, this tells me that other places not only keep their customers happy, but their employees as well.

But hey, it's your money, and the point is, this deal is warm at best. Less of a price, sure. Less of a product, yup. And from a retailer with a decent at best reputation.

Geez, enough of the crapping, please. Just buy it with a credit card. If they fail to live up to their end of the deal, challenge it. We're not talking thousands of dollars here. Not everyone needs a new version of Nero or whatever. My Nero burns with any burner I have. Mounting screws? I've got more than I can ever use. In other words, if a bare drive for $25 meets your needs, take the chance. As long as you know what you're getting for your money (and not getting), that's cool.

If you feel that $25 with credit card protection is more risk in life than you can bear, then shop elsewhere.

It's my opinion (and can't verify this) that people are more apt to review unfavorably than at all. I know that's my usual way of going about things with online purchases. In other words, if I get something I ordered without problems, I usually don't bother to make any reviews. But if I'm pissed about something that didn't show up or have problems with customer service (like directron!), you can bet I will fire off a flaming review venting my disappointment. So, if I'm looking at something like ResellerRatings, I'm more apt to take some negatives with a grain of salt, because there's no perspective there. There's no way of knowing what proportion of actual sales are reflected by these negative reviews.

I'll add my $0.02 worth here. First, as to people being more apt to review unfavorably than at all, you are correct. Actually in the food service business it goes something like this. For every 10 people that have a good experience, only one or two will tell others. However, every single person that has a bad experience, they will tell TEN others about it.
That being said, this is where we disagree. It is not crapping if you provide polite warning about a dubious vendor. In addition, folks here often quote resellersratings.com as at least a glimpse of what you might be dealing with. I also think folks need to consider the time and BS they might have to go through if there is a problem. Yes, you can challenge the charge on your CC but at that minute, your time is worth money. The time you will have to spend on the phone, both to the vendor and the CC company, forms to fill out, the delay in getting the product because you have to re-order from someone else, etc, etc, etc. It all adds up. That is what you are taking a chance on if you are screwed by a "less than honest" vendor. To some, that is not worth saving a few bucks when there are other, more reliable vendors out there.
I'm not saying the US-Depot is a bad dealer either. However, take a good long look at the ratings. One person even had no problems leaving his contact info in his post. That is something you don't see that often.
Price wise, this is pretty hot. But I'm going to pass on this one.

If you are into gambling anyways, check out dumpinggoods.com! They've got some refurb black ones for $20. I think they also have a couple of white ones for ~18 or 19 dollars.

They've also got some decent ati cards.

if you think us-depot is bad, you should know that las vegas is even worse! my father lost 10grand just gambling for 3 days. money is only good when you can spend on something cheap and good like this, don't try to save up to much and lose it all for nothing. btw, it doesn't get any cheaper then this. spend well and spend wisely.. the end.
