I was just on liteon's web site checking for new firmware for my 48X writer and they have firmware listed for a 52X24X52 CDRW drive, is this drive out yet?

look here

ok it is getting paintless now to sahve off a few seconds for these recording times. Unless they can get a cd to burn in under 1 minute completely i am not interested 😛

I just replaced my 4X Mitsumi with a Retail 40x12x48 Liteon from Dell for $42 shipped. That is plenty fast for me. 52x is not much different.

I am happy with my 8x4x32 drive and won't be upgrading anytime soon. In fact, I will probably wait until DVD burners become more mainstream and get one of those. 10 minutes is not a terribly long time to wait for a CD to burn in my opinion; especially since I can still use my computer just fine while it is burning.

w0rd.

CD-RWs went the ways of CD-ROM, just as many predicted. Maybe someone will someday breakthrough with a Zen True-X for CD-RW, but right now, these pointless speed bumps just dont excite anyone anymore. Might as well stick the slower(albeit not even noticable) and much cheaper burners.

Man, I hope the manufactures stop churning out CD burners and focus on DVD technology soon.

And decide on one good standard. What is there now, DVD-RAM, DVD+RW, DVD-RW, and all incompatible with each other? Crazy.

Jeez, I usually burn at 16x with my 40x because I'm scared I won't get a good burn at 40x.
Now 52 X. Heck thats as faster as the read speed of most CD ROM drives.

The only substantial improvements in these drives are the CD-RW speeds. 24x is a real increase from 10x or 12x. So if you back up to CDRW's frequently, it's probably worth it. Of course you have to find the 24x CDRW disks, and then they might be expensive to boot. With deals on CDR's where you can get them almost for free, hardly seems worth it.

I'm leery of these new speeds, we have already seen inidents of shattered CDs in 40X and 48X drives, this new 52X dosen't give me the warm and fuzzies.

drive manufacturers, I think this is the basic consensus:
WE WANT FAST WRITEABLE DVD AND FAST REWRITEABLE CD!!!!!!!!!!!

It gets long when backing stuff up.

Adul ditto! I am waiting for a cd-rw with cd-r and cd-rw speed that can burn cds in secs when including lead in and lead out! Heck i may wait for one that can burn a cd-r and cd-rw cd in 1 sec including lead in and lead out if thats possible but i am not holding my breath. If it does become possible then that certainly will be insanely fast and cool 1 sec but i don't think.
