Cops are paid enough in just the experience of authority that satiates their power hungry, egomaniac nature. They should get minimum wage.
CITY RANK 1
DEPARTMENT NAME POLICE DEPARTMENT
EMPLOYEE NAME CHARLES KEOHANE
JOB CLASS DESCRIPTION DEPUTY CHIEF III (POLICE DEPARTMENT)
REG PAY $163,616.02
OVERTIME $177,755.94
OTHER PAY $174,746.53
TOTAL PAY $516,118.49
OVERTIME RANK 1
Only 2 people made above 400k and both are DEPUTY CHIEF's. That and they were the number 1 and 2 in overtime work.
So yea these are not patrolmen that just started.
Here is the data for the #1 earner:
I'm curious as to what constitutes as "Other Pay"
http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/artic...evPageID=2&cpipage=1&CPIsortType=&CPIorderBy="other pay," which can include compensation for special working conditions or one-time pay-outs of unused vacation and sick leave to employees leaving the city
http://www.mercurynews.com/news/ci_14961033Top earner Charles Keohane, a former deputy police chief who earned $516,118, retired last year, cashing out stored-up vacation, sick days and comp time.
33%+ of the #1 guys pay was from retiring and cashing out vacation pay too. He might have worked 60+ hours a week for 30 years without taking any significant vacation or sick leave.
yea maybe true, but most private sector jobs don't give you that kinda bonus for just not using sick days.
Most jobs only pay you for unused vacation time.?
You don't get paid for your unused personal time when you leave your job?
Most jobs only pay you for unused vacation time.
Also, most companies require you to use that vacation time every year, or cash it out that year and not save it from year to year.

They are top level administrators, and you're also talking about a ton of overtime.
Administrators in any other place but the public sector are exempt employees and don't receive overtime.
$500,000 per year is outrageous.
Let's assume that this cop worked EVERY HOUR of every day without ever taking any time off...not even to sleep.
Total hours per year: 8,760
Regular Hours: 2080
Overtime Hours: 6680
Now let's assume his pay is something ridiculous, especially for a job like being a cop. Did you know that a lot of potential police officers are screened out do to high intelligence? They know the super smart ones will get bored and eventually quit. It isn't all gun fights and kicking in doors. Anyhow:
Rate of pay: $40/hour
Regular pay: $83,200
Overtime pay: $400,800
Total compensation: $484,000 for the year. And that is making $40/hour and literally working every hour of every day for an entire year.
That is fucking ridiculous and he should be replaced with 7 cops that each make $70,000 per year and the same cost to the tax payer. 7 cops is better than 1 cop.
If they earn it there is probably a good reason.
By a lot he means 1 small agency that would not let 1 guy in.
and by 1 small agency 1 guy he means the one he applied to.
They obviously didn't "do" to the fact he was too smart.![]()
