this really irritates me. i live in san francisco, which has major financial problems. every year they publish the salaries of city workers and there are always a bunch of cops and city administrators making hundreds of thousands of dollars, and that doesnt even include benefits. they achieve this by working overtime mostly. this year one cop made $516000, another made 425000, a couple made 350000 and a bunch made in the 200000's. that is a total rip off to taxpayers. if you ask me, no cop anywhere should be allowed to make more than 70000. if you need more cops, hire them, but dont let them rape the taxpayer with overtime. that job just doesnt require the brains or education to deserve hundreds of thousands in pay under any circumstances.

Only 2 people made above 400k and both are DEPUTY CHIEF's. That and they were the number 1 and 2 in overtime work.

Its called unions. They artificially prop up wages. Yes, cops are important, but why pay a cop 100k when there are plenty good cops willing to work for 40k? You can hire 2 and a half cops for 40k each or 1 cop for 100k. I'll choose 2.5 cops over 1 cop any day.

They are top level administrators, and you're also talking about a ton of overtime.

i personally dont use the bus b/c i have a car and a condo in the middle of the financial district but that was a big issue in this city recently because it affects a whole lot of other people, like the unemployed and seniors, who arent making 500000/year like the cops.

Nah - no you wouldn't. They cut jobs like that all the time with the budgets you blindly vote for. So the cops that usually get paid 40-55k a year are making 20-30k in OT with benefits and pensions. Too many cheifs and not enough indians.

Half the problem with our economy today is simply no one gets involved anymore and don't realize that the volunteers and overqualified idiots running the show are retards (for lack of better words). The other half is no one wants to bare any costs and believes just as long as some one else pays for it, it's perfectly fine.

Typically cops and other government employees that get these massive paychecks are retiring. The huge amount is part of their retirement. If you've been working for 40 years and your police department does a lump sum payout for retirement it can really add up.

You don't get up to $500,000 just by working a little bit of overtime.
