Im pretty sure its for that special geek that wants to show off by having the latests/greatest/bestest. Once its proven to be only marginally quicker than the 256mb model, the prices will come down. Someone already indicated the 9800PRO 256mb of a couple of years ago, so ya... its like that.

Such a complete and utter waste of money. It makes me sick.

A 256mb model would probably be faster because the ram would have lower latencies, and no current games need more than 256mb.

Ultra quality says it requires a 512mb card, but it runs fine on most high end 256mb cards, so I don't think there'll be much of a benefit.

um....wow

Oh yes...when the next unreal tournament comes out....I will be buying my new SLI mobo and 2 of the latest 512mb cards :)

I know it's overkill, but that's what most gamer's are about eh?

Buy the time the next UT comes out, these will be very out dated. That will be almost two or three chip revisions into the future.

Just check this months Maxmium PC review of ES Falcon. It had two of these ddr2 800 overclocked pentium 4 ee at 4.25 and Nvidia SLI and that thing kicked a FX55 with two 256mb 6800 Ultra half way across the universe. One game thats uses it would be a la DOOM 3

Yup. I had a buddy who wanted to get a 256MB 9200 Pro. Because he thought it was faster.
I'm glad he asked me first. I told him if he bought any game that filled his 256MB card, the weak processor would choke to death and burn up.
He decided on a X600 pro 128MB.

I havent actually seen anyone play Doom 3 with a 512MB card. But I think I would rather up the processing power first, then move from High to Ultra quality.

What a shock...NOT.

While your post is rather difficult to decipher, i believe you said the P4 EEs @ 4.25 GHz + 2 6800 512 MB Ultras performed better than the FX-55 + 2 6800 256 MB Ultras?

Maybe let's see an FX-55 @ 3.2 GHz + teh 512 MB Ultras & then see who's getting kicked across the universe ;)

My entire computer is worth about as much as the one video card the term for a monster like that is overkill
