She started with some cold symptoms Thursday evening, then complained of a headache Friday morning. Daycare called 2 hours after I dropped her off and said she suddenly had a 103F fever.

Wife picked her up, went to the Dr., and they did a test by spraying fluid in her nose which confirmed it was Influenza A. She was prescribed Tamiflu and Rimantide since we caught it quickly. Unfortunately, the poor little ah heck feels nauseous too so she can't keep the medicine down.

I hate it when kids get sick. 🙁

🙁

That's terrible, I hope for the best. But the Flu is not to be taken lightly. Make sure you constantly observe her, or at least keep her close by.

We have some anti-nausea suppositories that we're giving her that seems to help. Then we give her little bits of Pedialyte (1 tsp at a time) to try to keep her hydrated.

Just went through the same thing. 5 year old son got really sick, and then the next thing you know, we were all sick. We all went to the doc at the same time, and all three of tested positive for A........not much fun....

Exact same with our family, except we got Flu Strain B. started out with our older daughter, then me, now youngest boy, i'm sure the wife and other daughter will pick it up soon.

We've had at least two different flu bugs roar through our house this year so far.

Mostly upper respiratory-types, similar to a bad cold.

This morning's newspaper says there's a big outbreak of the stomach flu here again. This one is supposed to be very similar to novovirus...

I REALLY hope the grandkids don't bring that one home...

(children are a bunch of filthy little disease carriers aren't they?) 😛

Rimantadine?

Yes, that's it.

Her fever is only about 100.5F right now. She threw up at 9:30am. Gave her another anti-nausea suppository right away (last one wore off 3 hours before that). So far she's keeping down 3/4tsp of Pedialyte every 15 mins and a couple bites of cracker. Decided to give her a dose of Tamiflu and hopefully it stays down.

She says her head doesn't hurt anymore so that's a good sign.

What exactly is A?

There are three main types of influenza: A, B and C.

A is the kind that also infects chickens and pigs.

B is strictly human, and usually causes milder illness than A.

C isn't talked about much, it causes a very mild illness or is unsymptomatic.

Keep your kid at home until cured. Don't be like the other asshat parents and release their sick children upon the population.
