Of course there are. Even this one, Brighton Beach, is pretty nice when the hood rats aren't crawling all over it. You just have to know where to look. Montauk has beautiful secluded beaches off the old Montauk Highway, NJ has a number of little known beaches along the shore. Cape cod, etc.

But on days like yesterday, you don't want to be any where near that scene. Those kids don't give a f**k. Shooting people actually works for their street cred, as long as they don't get pinched for it.

Not unique to NYC

Based on my conversations with friends and neighbors, citizens of Chicago feel lied-to by Acting Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy. On Memorial Day, North Avenue beach, in one of Chicago's more affluent areas, was closed after gang violence. This is unprecedented. McCarthy repeatedly told the media it was due to people succumbing to the hot weather. Not true. Violence was out of control as beach-goers were harassed by mobs and cyclists were pulled off their bikes and beaten.
Mainstream media now contradicts McCarthy's feeble spin. One police officer told the media that 500 youths exited public transportation for the lakefront and while they were there, citizens were harassed.
CBS reported wilding incidents at this beach earlier in May, and police patrols had already been stepped-up. Two bike riders on the North Avenue Beach path had been mobbed by about 100 teens. They were knocked off their bikes and then thrown into Lake Michigan. Yet Near North District commander Kenneth Angarone said police responding at the scene did not find a "bona fide incident."

Public beaches are crap everywhere, whether due to ghetto trash in the Northeast, trailer trash along the Gulf of Mexico, or ginormous Hispanic families along Southern California's.

Alright, I'm going to open the can of worms. This probably could have been prevented if as little as 10% of the people on the beach were lawfully armed. And yes, I'm pulling that number straight out of my ass.

I've never had any trouble with Hispanic families at the beaches around here. There are a great many good, hard working, hispanic families here.

Gang bangers, on the other hand, should be rounded up, tied together with cement shoes and tossed into the ocean.

You're pulling that entire comment out of your ass.

Who brings guns to the beach anyway?

Put more Police there when it is crowded. It would be a start anyway.

All I know is that my parents took me to several pay-for-entry beaches as a child (Torrey Pines being the only one I remember by name) and that they were generally peaceful and nice. There was the occasional van with middle aged dudes selling sombreros, but I have nothing against capitalism. The one time we went to a completely public beach there were shittons of Mexican kids running around everywhere, but we managed to keep our sand castle in tact from them. No no, it was the fucking ugly fatass Mexican mothers that walked across our sand castle and beach towels. Since then we've decided that paying a minor ~$5 entry fee for the family is worth avoiding detestable poor people that swarm like locusts wherever there is something to destroy.</worthless anecdote>
