4 of the women got out from the driver/passenger compartment window.

the question is why couldn't the other 5 women get out from there.

One of my coworker's friend was getting married on the same day. In the same city. My heart sank a little when I read this. RIP

There's a report that the limo was one passenger over it's rated limit although I don't know if there's a weight component to the limit. Maybe the differential or a wheel bearing was low on grease and overheated.

I don't see one extra person being the problem... Sounds like 4 people were frantically trying to squeeze through a relatively small gap. Traffic jam.

Bad news is that today's reports say that they'll be identifying the corpses using dental records. Sounds like the outside didn't burn as bad as the inside.

5 women, 1 minute = 1 woman through the compartment window every 12 seconds = they all die from smoke inhalation first.

Don't forget to mention that most party Limos are filled with 40% proof or higher alky = fuel for fire... these women literally had no chance once there is a fire...

Appears all the deceased were piled up toward the front partition...probably overcame by smoke. How sad.

Forgot about the booze fest that is limos... Might help explain the need for dental records.

The good thing is that it looks like only the back quarter of the limo burned out. Maybe they can still have open casket funerals...
No. 🙁

I don't get why the passenger windows weren't smashed, isn't that why they shatter so evenly when punctured?

what a fucking mess 🙁

it sounds like it happened really fast before anyone could make a real effort to save everyone.

this will be a huge hit to the limo industry.

I myself have never been fond of them once I saw one inside in person. they are usually beat up and reek of vomit

I find this highly suspicious. At the same time, and odd and unsure way of killing someone that will attract unwanted attention.

I hadn't thought of the alcohol component before, that explains things a bit.. but I have a hard time seeing it create flames like that. I suppose if the alcohol also ignited the gastank. But what kind of chain of events would cause that to happen?

The only first hand account I read said a woman in the back said something to the driver about smoke, he assumed she was asking about smoking a cigarette, and then there was screaming to stop the car and the flames erupted. I guess we will hear more in the coming days about where the initial smoke came from.

I've seen alot of car fires, and they can light up FAST. an electrical short can make quick work of everything if the right chain of events takes place. 90% of good ones are simply overheated engines, others are more quirky

Yea and I guess a high mileage vehicle like a limo is going to have all sorts of quirky maintenance done to it. Wouldn't surprise me if they are like airplanes, passed on from company to company going from the higher tier providers to the lowest until every mile is squeezed out.

Still if not on purpose it was a highly unusual series of events, a perfect storm combination that I hope they get to the bottom of

Maybe they were doing flaming 151/everclear shots when someone spilled the handle of 151/everclear onto the non NFPA rated plush carpet of the limo. Then the person holding the lighter freaked and dropped it onto the carpet, igniting the spilled 151 and setting the carpet on fire. Given that the carpet is not NFPA rated, the carpet burns readily and the fire spreads to the other unopened handles of booze, increasing the pressure of their contents until the containers burst, releasing alcohol vapors which continue to fuel the fire.

if i were one of the ones who go out, I'd be doing everything in my power to smash in the windows so the others can escape.

Sad. 🙁

With the thread's title, I thought the actor playing some minor Borg character from Star Trek was involved.

Laugh at me if it makes you feel better.

Edit: I see I'm not the only one.

Well... it's sad and all... but the thread title...

Come on people.

"7 of 9 was reportedly inconsolable."
