Wow, that Mystique-X 7.1 card rox. I'm actually considering one myself. Too bad Creative tech is pushed so much in games, since this card will only do EAX 2.0, but I guess the DD Live sounds just amazing without EAX 4.0 HD.

The amazing-ness of it is mainly dependent on your speakers.

If you have some highend computer speakers, then an X-Mystique doesn't make sense.

The only time I think it would be a good idea is if you want to hook up digitally to a receiver.

If that's what you have planned, then

Hehe Yah I think I have a decent stereo system to hook up a card like that. I have a Yamaha vx-3000 receiver, and an 8.1 setup of Paradigm studio speakers and a mirage bi-polar 1200 sub (dual 12" woofers).

I still remember playing MOH: AA.. it was so realistic storming the beach with the sounds all around me. I swore I was being shot at :D

A new sound card sounds like it's in order though as it would probably sound even more realistic.

Cool. :D

I've read that the Onix Rockets I got are similar in sound to the Paradigm studio series (something like the Studio60 range)

How are you running 8.1? (as in speaker configuration)

How did you have your computer hooked up to it before? Analog to 8 channel direct in (or 9?)

And last but not least, :camera:s?

And last but not least, :camera:s?

I have Studio 100's for my mains (2), Studio 60's for my rear surround (2), front center (1), rear center (1), front effects (2) located higher and to the outside of the mains, and my bipolar sub (bps 1200 I think is the model from Mirage). The front effects supposedly split the front channels to give an effects channel for left and right and separate them so I have smaller speakers for those. It is more like discreet 6.1, but I do actually hear the separation in the sounds, especially when there are loud effects in movies and games.

Haha I just had my computer hooked up through PCM basic stereo for the games, and by coax for movies, but it sounded awesome. I have hooked it up by analogue to my old sound card as well, but it was going from front/rear as my sound card did not have a center or sub jack, so I basically simulated a 5.1 system when I actually only had a 4.1 system going into the receiver. I would rather have the separate source for each of the mains, rear, front and rear center, and sub, and it looks like that Mystique card would serve the purpose. I could even use the optical connector if I'm not mistaken to get the DD sound from my games to the receiver which would produce even richer and more indepth sound.

Hmm Pics.. I'll try to get some pics for ya (my room is quite the mess though haha). Any good site that you know where I can post pics free?

You have some nice kit there :)

I have to make a shelf for my rear center or something to hold it up at the correct height since when I moved a shelf, it doesn't have a place to put it any longer.

I have studio center for my front center, and I can't recall the center I'm using for the rear, but it's not as high end since there is not much going through the rear center channel anyway. My front effects are Paradigm Titans and they give off pretty good sound for the effects, but there is only about 25watts going through them.

I'll try to take some good pics on the weekend to post. Do you have a suggestion for the rear center to suspend it or keep it at a certain height? I was told to just make a shelf using brackets and a board, but I'd like to make it look fairly presentable.

Hmmm... I don't have much experience mounting speakers anywhere.
I've only used speaker stands in the past... would it be possible to just get a stand for it that will keep it at close to ear level?
Is it front ported or pack ported? If it's back ported, you wont want to have it up against a wall.

I was about to say the Mystique-X has goldplated plugs, but then I realized that the reason for you to get this was to use the digital out ;)

I know YOyoYOhowsDAjello is probably sick of seeing me any time an audio thread comes up but........

To the guy who was looking at the Logitech Z-680's:
I recommend you consider these.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16836121121

280 watts of genuine 5.1 audio for $130 is a steal. The only thing they are missing is a DD decoder (analog only). And depending on what sort of sound card you have that might not be a great loss.
I use an Audigy 1, so it didnt really make sense to game with digital anyway.
The analog outputs work great, I cant tell any difference between analog and digital for music. And the speakers sound very nice.

i have a TSS-1 yamaha speaker set that has coaxial and optical sp/dif, is it better to use optical out from my fortissimo sound card or coaxial out from the nf4?

Oh Snap! I had that speaker system too. The fiber optic and digital coax sound the same.

I would pick the fortissimo over the nForce 4, but thats just me. Other folks may have more input.

You can use a video cable instead of a "digital coax" cable. i.e. Composite or component

are those the analog inputs, front and surround, is there an advantage over the optical connection

coomar, are you already hooked up with optical?

If so, just stick with that rather than spending money to go to coaxial.

the tss-1 came with an optical (though its like 3 feet) and coaxial cable, i'm using optical right now (and i'm been using it for a while now since before this I had the NF7), i'm just curious what the difference is between coaxial and optical sp/dif

Right, it's sending the same signal just in a different format.

I think optical is acutally a nicer method of doing it because you can't really get any interference from electrical wires running near it since it's transmitted by light, but I'm not really sure if that would have any impact on a digital coaxial signal anyways.

Yeah, from what Ive read, that is true.

There are pros and cons to both. I think optical is better for shorter runs, the opposite for coaxial...etc/etc.

Me..I am still looking around at speakers. I wish those damn Entras would get in stock at Vanns! That price is so awesome.

bloody f'in hell....

just got the mystique. i installed it, and i'm listening to Rachmaninov in a 5.1 setup.

maybe this is a bit of hyperbole, but this card with the DD makes the audigy 2 zs sound like a pc speaker... from back in the 8086 days!

this is AMAZING. it's litterally like you're in a concert hall.
