My system:
MSI K7T266 Pro2-A (4x agp)
T-bred 2100+ (133mhz fsb. crashes at 136)
512MB PC2100 ("Legacy electronics," thus above fsb)
PNY FX5900U flashed to 5950U (at stock speeds, 475/950)

Um. Games don't run as fast as I would have expected. In NFS Underground with full settings I get a little jerkiness. My 3dmark scores were pretty low, too. My main question is: Does running my card at 4x slow it down a lot? I read a review saying that 8x agp really didn't matter, but I don't know if they tested the current top of the line cards.

No nvidia-bashing, please.

Yeah that's it. CPU and RAM.

This friend of mine has a 1900+ and 256 PC2100 and a 5900 overclocked to a Ultra.

He can barely play UT2004. He has almost all specs above recommended specs, but can barely run it at 1024x768.

Recommended, now means, that you can run it great at the lowest settings.

Try disabling Light Trails and Motion Blur and drop to 10x7 if you?re at 12x10. Also, you could try disabling/lowering AA if you have that on.

Could be a pause bug too ?

l ...

The GeForceFX 5950Ultra did have a couple of problems in this game. First of all the same overbright lighting issue is still present with this new driver as we have seen with the 53.03 driver and 52.16 driver. There is also some kind of bug that is causing ?micro pauses? in the game as you are driving. The game will pause, for what seems less then a second, and then continue. It does this randomly throughout the game making driving not exactly 100% smooth. The ABIT 9800XT does not exhibit this behavior which leads us to believe it is a Forceware driver bug.

a new mobo for 200mhz fsb, faster ram, and overclock that cpu and you should see a nice boost.

Yeah thanks guys. I have been wanting an nf2 (DFI infinity) with xp-m 2400 and some good ram. The problem is I shouldn't really be upgrading my computer. :p It does seem like it runs somewhat smooth and then just has times where it freezes. This is really only in NFS underground. Call of Duty looked awesome when I first ran it so I didn't even go into the settings. Hell, I beat the whole game without ever changing a thing. And that ran perfectly smooth the whole time with no skips (except when things were in the background). I haven't extensively played any other games with this card, so I can't tell much. Halo looks so much better on high quality, and doesn't seem to skip. I run my games at 1024x768 and change the settings to something manageable. Also, I leave my AA/AF on application controlled. Does this mean the game decides for me or do some games have settings for controlling it in-game? I haven't seen any controls for it. I did notice that setting it to 8x/8x at 10x7 makes things run just a tad slow. :)

It means that if the game has a setting for it, you can adjust it there.

Make sure your card is not thermal throttling its clock speed down also. Download Rivatuner and letit run the clock monitor in the background while you play games and see if the clock drops below 475Mhz. My 5900 does this if I OC above around 430Mhz, even though it does not get artifacts. It will drop down to 370Mhz. Since you have flashed it to a 5950, you should have this problem less, but it could still be a factor. My rig isn't technically any more modern than yours(its a dual Athlon, so its the same RAM and FSB as you have, albeit with twice the theoretical CPU power) and it plays every game I have thrown at it fine. Also, check to see if you are running low on RAM, though 512 ought to be enough. Finally, what kind of hard drive is in this rig? If you are running low on RAM, than you could start hitting the pagefile and if its a slow drive. that could maybe cause some jerkiness.

Yes, there would be a slight performance decrease with 4x. Also my Jetway FX5200 is supported in 8x/4x/2x modes and my Jetway 845GDML supports 4x, should it'll work fine for me.
