Made me laugh - That said, I hope you were joking only because he was using hyperbole to demonstrate that the difference is so minimal, it might as well be indentical.

Yeah he probably meant they were nearly or almost identical but it was weird to see someone say 'They are identical' and then post a difference between them as proof that they were identical.

But it's not. When you're dealing with a difference in thousands and it's a change of 1 penny, that's still $10.

Yes, it is external, and you don't really know if it'll have 7200 or 5900 drive inside (personally I'd prefer 5900), but this is almost back to preflood/preconsolidation price levels per TB!

According to Seagate, their only 7200 RPM 4tb drive is currently an enterprise-class drive, which I highly doubt this is. It's going to be 5900.

If you look on Amazon's site, it says 5900. If you go to Seagate's site, it doesn't explicitly say, but all the performance numbers lead to believe it certainly isn't 7200, and like I said, I hightly doubt they'd put in a Constellation drive in here.

Edit: ST4000DX000 = 7200 apparently. Not listed on Seagates site. ST4000DM000 = 5900. So yes, it could be a gamble. The ST4000DX000 is 14th gen, ST4000DM000 is 15th gen.

The DM = 5900 but it is 1TB platters. I ran some test by moving 100GB video files and it sustained 145+ MBps. Great performance as far as I'm concerned.

Exactly. Early versions of this enclosures had 5 platter 7200rpm hard drive, but recently seagate started putting 4 platter 5900rpm drives inside. Since this would have been my storage drive I would prefer to get 4 platter 5900rpm drive.

PS I ended up passing on this deal. I have about 1TB left across my computers, so I still got a little time before I have to buy a new hard drive. I'm hoping to hold out until BF this year at which point I will probably have no choice but to buy another hard drive.
