As previously mentioned in the thread, the Serial number is on the stick after: S/C I photocopied the entire box front and the 1 side that had a label as well. Since HP doesn't do unique UPCs on high volume items they are asking for the serial number of the chip.
I will have to double check this, but while i was going through the chips last night all four had the same s/c number. Hence my confusion.
But I will photocopy the boxes and the RAM sticks just to be on the safe side also.

Crucial says that they do not have to be ECC as long as nothing installed is ECC. The system came with two 512mb ECC chips.
The SC1435 does not even POST with this RAM in it.

Anyone? I do not see why this does not work. I checked the docs and it should work. Checked for an ECC/Non-ECC jumper and nothing. Tried clearing the NVRAM, still nothing. It doesnt beep and nothing appears on the screen. I have tried putting the sticks in various slot configurations and still nothing.
Have you tried using just 1 stick? If it doesn't boot with 1 stick, the ram is probably not going to work with this pc.
yeah i tried one stick in the first slot. No go. Doesn't make sense to me though. It "should" work.

How can you tell whether they are Micron or other? I can't make out any manufacturer info on the chips themselves.
Unfortuantely, I don't think it's gonna work. The crucial website indicates that the system needs "registered" and "ECC". Sometimes the ECC isn't important (depends on the chipset) but the othe part is important.
For your review, the HP memory in this deal with Micron chips is the same as this memory. (it's "unbuffered")
The memory needed for the SC1435 is here. (needs to be "registered").

Tempted also, but wasn't planning on building for another 2-3 months. RAM prices could go back up, so I'm wondering if I should get 4 of these for my Q6600 build or not. I do hate rebates though. God do I hate me some rebates.
My four came in on 6/21, from an order on 6/18. They were shipped from an Ingram-Micro location in PA. All four were the micron chips and were in sequential serial numbers. Now to wait for the rebate.

I stuck my four sticks in a Dell Dimension 9200 c2d running Win2003 Server Ent and the system booted but the screen kept flashing and locking up. I tried with just two gigs and it was faster than ever. I think one of the sticks might be bad (one of the two that I took out) or was just not seated properly.

Your system supports ECC. You can put non-ECC modules into an ECC system, but be sure not to mix ECC and non-ECC modules within a system. Install the same type of modules that are already in your system.
Try using one stick at a time to see if one of them is actually bad; it could be the mb or ram socket, too.
The link has been fixed. It basically takes you to almost the same place you had alredy linked to. The point was to show you that the memeory that Crucial is calling for is "registered". You are using "unbuffered". I believe this is why it is not working in your system.
I tried googling the chipset used in that system to get more technical specs but it uses a chipset from Broadcom and I couldn't find anything that really addressed the type of memory used.
Thanks, the site says it takes either ECC or Non ECC but they suggest/offer ECC, Registered as compatible. Now my question is, is ECC fine or does it have to be "Registered", "With Parity" or will "non-registered ECC work? Just from reading around, I have seen that RAM can be ECC but not "Registered"
Anyways, more on topic. I tested the sticks and they are all good, it is just the forth slot that is bad on the Dimension 9200 C2D. I still have quite a bit of time on my one year warranty so I will call Dell tomorrow.

I had sequential numbers also! I had to look real close to realize that. I thought that all four of my strips had the same serial number!
Anyway, I sent my rebate on Saturday, let's hope it shows!

Yeah, it only sees 3GB of my 4GB RAM. After some investigation I come to find out this is part of the limitation of 32-bit Windows. Part of the 4GB address space has to be reserved for other things besides RAM (including video memory). Dude, Where's My 4 Gigabytes of RAM? In my case a whole GB of RAM is just wasted.
If I had known this I would have just bought two sticks of this RAM and added to my original 1GB I would have had 3GB of RAM , all useable. I'm really surprised that nobody here mentioned this issue. You can run 4x1 in dual channel mode, but you can't run 3x1 in dual channel mode.
And some people might be using 64 bit vista or linux, which can address all 4GB (and more).
