hello,

i am in need of some advice.

i currently uses the epox 4g4a+ 845G chipset motherboard

i have a 1.6 p4 OC'ed to 133x16 stock cooling

420WATT PSU

i purchased corsair XMS 512mg PC2700 DDR, i was using pc2100 crucial 256mg

after the upgrade, all worked fine.. i then continued to OC the FSB higher and the ram higher.. but i stupidly forgot to increase vcore and vdimm for stability. Now after this bios save and reboot.. this system will not post.. my monitor stays black and it makes beeping noises. The 4g4a+ manual says if overclock fail.. press the 'insert' button on reboot and it will go back to old bios settings. i tried this and it will not work.. now i cant get back into bios to lower FSB and DDR speeds to make it post. what can i do?? i am in desperate need of help as i need this system for a project. im sure there has to be a way to get back into the system (bios) to change settings to make it work. will there be permanent damage?

i was thinking of flashing the bios to revert to old bios settings. will this work??? (remember, i cant even get to post or get the monitor to display anything) it just keeps making the horrid beeping sounds whenever i power up. please help an OC gone wrong!

thanks..

Did you try and clear your CMOS?.Check your manual for your mobo to see how its done for your board. There is probably 2-3 pins on your mobo you have to short bu using a jumper after you shut down your system.Check your manual to see where it is and how its done.

thanks for the tips guys. i will try this when i get home (at work). but what exactly does clearing the cmos do? it will reset the BIOS to default? i was thinking about taking the CMOS battery out to acheive this effect but what youre suggestions sound safer.

is this the normal procedure to recover from nopost when your pushing your OC to see its highest potential? cause i know people just OC until it wont post or wont stay stable then clock it down from there a notch.

thanks for the input.

more suggestions are welcome.

thank you.

Yeah, it'll reset bios to default. And yes it is a common method of recovering from a no post.

I got a black screen from overclocking when I exit the bios a few times.I just powered down and back up from the switch on the back of the power supply and then power up from the front.I can get back into my bios.I forgot to mention that clearing your CMOS might include taking your battery out aswell.Atleast thats how my P4B533 works. This is how my mobo works and not necessarly how your works so look in your manual.

1/ turn off the computer and unplug the power cord.
2/ remove the battery.
3/ place a jumper cap over the CLRTC jumper for about 5 seconds, then remove the cap.Don't leave the cap on the jumper.
4/ re-install the battery.
5/ plug the power cord and turn on the computer.
6/ hold down the <DEL> key during the boot process and enter bios setup to re-enter data.

If you read the long 4G4A+ thread in the overclockers forum they mention how to clear your bios for your mobo.

ok.. thanks guys.

ill try setting the jumper to clear first then booting. and then if that fails ill try taking the battert out and then jumper simultaneously.

but lastride,

i should take the jumper cap off the pins before i reboot?? it will detect the new settings?

thanks.

I just found this in the 4G4A+ forum here in the motherboard section just above your post and not in the Overclockers forum like I said.

To clear cmos, you should unplug the power cord and wait 10 secs then move the jumper to clear position. Wait about 10-15 secs and then move the jumper back to the default running position. Now, plug your power cord back into the supply and power up.
