4870 512mb for 55$ shipped no rebate.

Thanks! This was a good deal. I used the newegg gift code I got from google offers, so $35 total for me. I'm going to replace my ati 4670 with this.

Great cards. I had two in crossfire before. They are still laying around, I need to sell them... Very complicated card, crazy to know they are selling for 55 dollars now!

Can I have a link to the loud review?

"The Radeon HD 4850 set a new record for the quietest card in idle, the HD 4870 can not get near that. Still, a noise level of 24.1 dbA in idle and 32.5 dbA is well within what is normal for a high-end card nowadays.

its not loud when its at idle or playing videos. i use a 1gb model in my htpc with a reference cooler. its fine.

still plays any game at 1080p, with some of the newer games needing a slight down tick in quality settings. overall though, i still dont feel the need to upgrade. not until i find a game i cant play that i want to.

Waaaahhh!! $55 video card too loud!!! 🙄

Spend $150 then on a 6870.

what does the price have to do with anything? if someone needs a card that is very quiet, he needs a card that is very quiet. seeing this hot deal, they are just asking if its quiet. if it is quiet, and at idle it is, then the price comes into factor. and its a steal at this price. so its a hot deal. wow no ridicule or belittlement.

I have 2x Sapphire 4870 512MB cards (just sitting around though). Very similar except one thing; one has a slightly newer bios revision compared to the other. One is on the loud side, the other is on the quieter side. The newer bios has a better fan profile than the older bios does so its not as loud.

In other words, you can use MSI Afterburner or Edit/Flash the bios to lower the fan speeds to be quieter. Unless of course the hsf on this $55 is junky. :\

Also try redoing the thermal paste as well could help keep the fans from ramping up faster.

Thanks op, I couldn't pass this up. I mostly play wow and these cards are fine for that maxed on 1080p tv's. I have another and may try to crossfire them for fun.

^
Yeah you can crossfire two but this one on newegg has only 512mb so essentially you'll be losing 512mb.

Very tempting.
Could Crossfire with last years $20 AR XFX 1G 4850, if I only had a Crossfire motherboard.

How would this handle skyrim at 1650? I have a friend who is looking for a cheap replacement for his old 8800gt.
